*Brown University Health - Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, Rhode Island**Sterile Processing Quality-Education Coordinator - Full time**Work Schedule:* 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts available.*Pay Range:* $53,830.40 - $88,816*Position Summary: *The Sterile Processing Quality/Education Coordinator reports to the Quality Assurance/Education Manager. Under general supervision, plans, designs, monitors, and audits procedures for a variety of activities related to the processing, sterilization and HLD of medical devices, to assure compliance with quality and safety standards. Develops training certification programs for sterile processing personnel on the standard techniques in decontamination, assembly, sterilization/HLD, and distribution of sterile processing. Maintains appropriate documentation on all related information systems for the purpose of implementing training procedures for personnel to include EPIC, People Soft and instrument tracking system. Establishes and maintains a relationship with the operating room management and staff as well as OR Educator for training, development, and education/in-services.*Responsibilities:*Assists with the overall quality improvement projects, processes monitoring, key performance improvement metrics and auditing of the sterile processing departments.Takes pride and leadership in the implementation of projects that will help to improve the quality of service and products provided by sterile processing department.Proactively seeks ways to improve the overall quality through the assessment and monitoring of the SPD techs performance and quality that will help to improve the department.Provides quality assurance audits and the support necessary for staff in the field of sterile processing to perform their tasks in an efficient way.Reports on quality metrics and improvement projects to the Quality Assurance/Education Manager.Contributes to the shift huddles of the department and shares quality and educational reports or comments to help build a quality driven staff.Helps the Quality Assurance/Education Manager ensure that the department meets all the regulations, standards, and guidelines consistent with AORN, AAMI, The Joint Commission, CMS, CDC, OSHA, and FDA requirements as well as the hospital's policies and procedures.Monitors and checks for compliance of all SPD equipment, sterilization, HLD, logs, checklists, and documents on a routine basis and keeps staff and department compliant with policies, procedures, and standards.Responsible for continuously auditing the Decon and Assembly staff work for quality, productivity and that the proper processes are adhered to.Inspect work routinely throughout the shift and address as appropriate.Give feedback as well as collaborates with supervisors on giving feedback to all staff that require it.Maintains and updates professional knowledge by actively participating in professional seminars and organizations.Responsible for the education of all sterile processing department staff.Coordinates all sterile processing departmental orientation of new hires.Leads the implementation and promotes the education and training of staff members to ensure professional development within all areas of sterile processing.Evaluates, reviews, and reports staff's ability to provide clean, sterile, and accurate instrument sets.Reports on education metrics and improvement projects.Trains all staff in the use of EPIC, the Instrument tracking system, and trains staff on all related electronic software that SPD staff may use.Helps to orientate staff with Net Learning.Help to guide all preceptors with their assigned staff as needed.Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.*Qualifications:*High school diploma.Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the International Association of Health Care Central Service Material Management or other certification boards.Must obtained Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) within 12 months of hire and the other within 18 months of hire as a condition of employment.Advanced Certifications as a Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) preferred.Minimum of 2-3 years in the Sterile Processing field.Minimum of 1 year of lead or higher responsibility within the sterile processing field.Strong working knowledge of principles and practices of sterile processing field.Must demonstrate expert knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, inventory management, and case cart management.Proficient oral and written (English language) communication skills required in order to fulfill documentation and presenting requirements associated with the position.Computer and Microsoft office proficient.Excellent interpersonal skills.*Work Environment:*Works in patient care environment and sterile processing area, with some exposure to infectious disease, contaminated equipment, supplies and instruments; hazards are minimized when established safety procedures are followed.*About Brown University Health:*Brown University Health, Rhode Island's first health system, was founded in 1994 by Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital.
