Iowa Orthopedic Center is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. This position will work at our new ambulatory surgery center in Grimes. Hours of the position are 2pm to 10 pm, Monday through Friday. Our Sterile Processing Techs play a critical role in preventing infection by sterilizing, cleaning, processing, assembling, storing, and distributing medical supplies. This role prepares medical equipment and instruments for decontamination, and prepares and delivers equipment and supplies to corresponding areas.Hours: Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM,Key Responsibilities:Preparing medical equipment and instruments for decontamination.Operating equipment to clean, disinfect, and decontaminate surgical instruments, medical devices and equipment.Inspecting instruments and equipment for signs of damage and wear and tear.Unpacking, checking, and stocking new equipment, instruments and devices.Delivering equipment and supplies to all areas of the facility.Responding to emergency supply requests during surgical procedures.Maintaining accurate records of when items undergo sterilization.Gathers and stock needed medical supplies for patient care areas from bulk storage.Checks outdates monthly on all inventory in area(s) of concern.Maintains and promotes a safe environment.Assists with coordination of equipment and supply requests from other facilities as needed.Picks doctor preference cards and pulls supplies for surgical procedures.Maintains supply cart profiles at optimal levels at all times. Adjusts as usage dictates so carts reflect actual need.Keeps supply carts, drawers, and bins correctly labeled.Must complete and pass an accredited education program, required.High school diploma or GED required.Computer experience preferred.Knowledge of the best practices for infection control, hazardous waste disposal and emergency preparedness.Keen attentiveness to detail to monitor working conditions, inspect equipment and oversee the decontamination process.Organizational skills to efficiently fulfill supply requests.Familiarity with a wide range of surgical instruments, medical devices and equipment.Dexterity to operate equipment used for decontamination and sterilization.Experience using databases to look up infection control procedures as needed.Strong oral and written communication skills to interact with members of the care team and keep accurate records.Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations; or situations in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.Why Choose Iowa Ortho?Center of Excellence: Physician-owned orthopedic clinic and surgery center dedicated to providing exceptional medical care to the people of central Iowa.
