Sterile Processing Tech-In-TrainingPosition Summary:Works under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Educator or a Sterile Processing Preceptor while training in the following areas: Decontamination, Scope Processing, High Level Disinfection, Instrument Assembly, Case Carts, and Supply Stock. Completes assigned modules and training as outlined in competency based orientation packet and new hire training program. Works in a restricted access area. Responsibilities: Gains knowledge on utilization of aseptic technique, standard precautions, and use of personal protective equipment (P.P.E)Gains knowledge on cause and spread of infectious diseases as they relate to Sterile Processing functionsGains knowledge of department standards and processes to include AAMI/ANSI, AORN, and IAHCSMM standards and best practicesGains knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to Sterile Processing functionsGains knowledge on proper use and handling of caustic agents and chemicalsGains knowledge of proper use of quality assurance documents and software programs for instrument tracking, sterilization record keeping, and supply distribution/materials management functionsGains knowledge on how to use department specific testing equipment to diagnose and treat equipment failures to include replacing parts, demagnetizing, polishing, sending out for repair, or removing from service and documenting need for non-repairable replacement.Gains knowledge of proper operation of sterilizers and high-level disinfectors, and identifies specific instrumentation and equipment that is appropriate for each processGains knowledge on operation of drying cabinets and heat sealers, as well as how to troubleshoot operational failuresGains knowledge of how to use count sheet and preference cards to assemble instrument sets and case carts based on Physician preferencePerforms other related duties as assignedFamiliar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job functionCompetent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned Requirements and Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED requiredMeets job training requirements within 4-6 months of hireCentral Service Certification (C.R.C.S.T.) through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (I.A.H.C.S.M.M.) required within 2 years of hire Working Conditions: Bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 50 poundsOn feet a minimum of 7 to 12 hours, depending on length of shiftReaching with hands and arms above head, shoulder height and belowUse hand and fingers to handle, lift, and feelCan to see and identify colors correctlyPush and pull heavy cartsExposure to contagious diseases, body fluids, hazardous chemicals, needles and other infected material requiring personal protective equipmentRead preference cards, pick lists, count sheets, equipment gauges, monitors, schedules and a variety of other written materialsWork according to a schedule that allows some freedom to be carried out in a manner that allows work to be completed each day as neededCommunicate with patients, physicians, families, and co-workers utilizing appropriate methods such as in person, on telephone, through email, etc.Work with equipment and manipulate settings, computer, keyboard, phone system, etc.About Kootenai HealthKootenai Health is a highly esteemed healthcare organization serving patients throughout northern Idaho and the Inland Northwest.
