Position Summary

The Salvation Army Henning Family Store provides an enjoyable shopping experience with great deals on a variety of goods. The store's income directly supports the local community by helping fund local Salvation Army programming. The Corps is doing the most good by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners.

The Store Associate is responsible for ensuring customers and donors have a positive experience visiting the store. The Associate processes donated goods, stocks merchandise, and assists customers with shopping and checking out.

Essential Functions

Store Associates will be cross-trained in all essential functions. The associate may perform a variety of essential functions throughout their shift or be assigned to a few specific essential functions.

  • Create a positive, enjoyable shopping and donation experience for customers and donors.
  • Accurately, efficiently, and quickly operate the cash register.
  • Process, sort, clean, hang, organize, and bail merchandise.
  • Stock and maintain merchandise on the floor to increase product visibility and sales.
  • Process donation drop-offs, assist donors with unloading donations, and issue receipts.
  • Perform light cleaning throughout the store.
  • Assist customers with loading purchases as requested.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Customer services and/or retail experience preferred.
  • Basic math skills required and previous experience handling cash a plus.
  • Must pass background checks.

  • Ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and prioritize.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to stand for long periods. Ability to walk, bend, stand, lift, and carry.
  • Must be able to regularly lift 40 pounds and occasionally 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English.
  • Not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
