Job Duties
The storekeeper independently receives, classifies, and stores incoming stock; pulls, packs, and ships orders assigned by supervisor; ensures incoming and outgoing orders are checked against invoice/packing list; counts and inventories as assigned; assists with cleanup and storage of records; distributes supplies; and conducts periodic inventories. May back up mail/messenger staff delivering mail, lab specimens, and bank deposits.
Typical duties include:
Accounts Payable - payment of invoices using the small purchase charge card (daily)
Reconciliation - verify all transactions are correct, have been authorized, received. (daily)
Inventory - conduct inventory of all assets including IT Equipment, Fleet, Pharmacy, Emergency Supplies. Surplus inventory and Records Retention. Distributes/Stocks inventory in warehouse when received. Pulls items from inventory and distributes to when needed.
Procurement - order supplies and services according to the Agency Procurement and Surplus Property Manual and eVa. Once orders are received, they are distributed accordingly.
Facilities and Fleet Maintenance - contacts Local Office to schedule maintenance issues. Assist with scheduling maintenance of fleet vehicles.
Mail - assist with daily mail and Post Office run. Prepares packages for shipment. Delivers mail/packages within the 4 health districts.
THIS IS A WAGE POSITION
Wage employees are subject to the following conditions of employment:
* Wage employees serve at the will and pleasure of the appointing authority.
* Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.
* Wage employees are not covered by the provisions of the Virginia Personnel Act. Therefore, they are not eligible for benefits which are provided to salaried employees, such as leave credits, holiday pay, insurance, access to the grievance procedure, etc.
* Wage employees are paid only for the hours they actually work.
* Virginia state law currently requires that agencies not permit wage employees to work in excess of 29 hours per week on average over the course of a year. Wage employees may not work for VDH beyond 1,500 hours during the period of May 1 - April 30 of the following year (the Standard Measurement Period).
* Once a wage employee works the maximum of 1,500 hours during the Standard Measurement Period, the employee may be rehired as a wage employee of VDH only after the next Standard Measurement Period has begun.
* Wage employees are eligible to apply for all classified positions for which recruitment has been initiated, including those limited to State Employees Only.
* If a wage employee becomes employed in a classified position, he/she will be eligible to purchase retirement credit for the time worked as a wage employee.
Minimum Qualifications
* Working knowledge of general storeroom operations and procedures,
including inventory control
* Computer and typing skills and the ability to key information into automated
databases; working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; working knowledge
of calculator and familiarity with completing forms/internal documentation
* Ability to lift or move heavy objects up to and including 30 - 60 lbs
* Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the public and coworkers
* Strong organizational and customer services skills
Additional Considerations
* Prior experience as a storekeeper responsible for security and issuance of large inventory including office/medical/cleaning/miscellaneous supplies
