Distinguishing Features of the Class An employee in this class is a member of a crew performing maintenance work to maintain and construct storm drains, patch asphalt, perform concrete work and other construction work. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Public Services Crew Supervisor and is inspected during progress. Examples of DutiesIllustrative Examples of Work Works on a crew to patch asphalt, to repair or re-construct water of sewer lines; to unclog storm drains with a sewer jet, to maintain and repair storm drains and catch basins, and to repair and replace drains, pipes and man holes. Works on a crew to maintain and repair streets, sidewalks, and driveways. Drives truck for snow and ice removal; applies chemicals as needed. Assists with landscaping maintenance of grounds and stormwater control measures, as needed. Operates tractor to mow grass in rights of way; operates chain saw to remove limbs and trees from rights of way. Operates dump truck, bobcat, grader, back hoe, motor grader, track loader, flusher truck, rubber tire loader, roller and tack machine; performs routine servicing on equipment. Works at special town events; sets up and disassembles; cleans area after event. Assists with setting up work zones; puts signs and safety cones out; directs traffic. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Work requires some knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in semi-skilled and skilled manual labor. Work requires some knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment utilized in the area of assigned work. Work requires some knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work. Work requires some knowledge of basic carpentry and masonry. Work requires some knowledge of landscaping practices and plan identification. Employee must have the ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions. Street Maintenance Technician IIRequired Experience - Minimum 4 years of light to medium duty equipment experience. Examples of medium equipment include, but not limited to, tractors, skid steer, mowers, roller, air compressor, backhoe, cement mixer, ditch witch or any similar device. Illustrative Examples of Work In addition to task associated with Street Maintenance Technician I: Operates a back hoe on a crew to dig around sewer, water, gas and electric lines, meter boxes or in other areas where underground and overhead utilities require special skill and care. Operates a motor grader to grade gravel streets, clean ditches, and remove snow and ice from streets. Serves as lead worker in operating a Street sweeper/water truck to clean out clogged drainage culverts. Performs skilled masonry work with building forms, establishes proper grade and fall, pours and finishes concrete, and lays bricks and blocks. Assets in setting up job sites according to established safety standards and MUTCD. Drives a truck or participates as part of a leaf/and or brush collection crew as needed; drives solid waste truck as needed. Operates street sweeper in cleaning catch basins and storm drains. Operates bobcats and attachments including pavement milling machine. Senior Street Maintenance TechnicianRequired Experience -
- Minimum 6 year of medium-heavy duty equipment experience. Examples of heavy equipment include, but not limited to, a backhoe, crane truck,, grader, excavator, dozer and loaders or any similar device.
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Street Maintenance Technician II.
