What's the Role and What You'll Do

We're looking for a highly motivated, reliable and skilled individual to join the Public Works Department for the position of Streets Maintenance Worker I/II. Working on the City's 140 miles of streets, staff members inspect and maintain the City's improved and unimproved streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, bikeways, public parking lots, and parking lots at City facilities. The Streets staff also maintains street striping and markings; installs, maintains, repairs street signs and streetlights; and cleans the City's streets. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, performing a variety of preventive maintenance and repairs and providing exceptional customer service. * Perform maintenance, repair, painting, construction and installation of streets, parking lots,

and traffic control signs and striping.

* Perform concrete repair, construction and installation.

* Repair street surfaces, including backfilling trenches and excavations, following utilities

repairs.

* Design and install traffic signs and pavement markings.

* Maintain tools and equipment.

* Drive streetsweepers as assigned.

* Perform related duties as assigned.

The Essentials

Streets Maintenance Worker I:

* One year of experience in construction or field maintenance work.

* Training equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.

* Possession of a valid California Class C or Class B Driver License at time of appointment.

Possession of a California Class A Driver License within six months of appointment.

Streets Maintenance Worker II:

* Two years of street maintenance experience equivalent to the Streets Maintenance

Worker I in the City of Mountain View.

* Training equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.

* Possession of a valid California Class C or Class B Driver License at time of appointment.

Possession of a California Class A Driver License within six months of appointment.

* Oral Board Interview Panel (weighted 100%) via video conference (Zoom) to be conducted in December.

* In-person Department Interview - Select candidates who pass the oral board interview may be invited to meet with staff from the Public Works Department for a more in-depth discussion regarding the position and their qualifications.

Fine Print. Must have the physical ability to bend, pull, push, lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Selection process includes submitting 10-year DMV driving history (dated within 90 days). This position is covered by the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Therefore, prior to final selection, qualifying candidates, including current employees who transfer from other classifications not covered by the DOT regulations, will be required to submit to a pre-employment/pre-duty drug test. Candidates will not be assigned to a safety-sensitive position if they do not pass the test. Prior to hire, candidates will be required to successfully complete a preemployment process, including employment verification and a Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint check.
