Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health
Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health as an Editorial Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2024.
The Editorial Assistant for the Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association will support the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team in managing the publication process, ensuring high-quality submissions, and maintaining smooth communication with authors, reviewers, and the editorial board. This role involves administrative duties related to manuscript editing/processing, coordination of peer reviews, and adherence to the journal's publishing guidelines. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and a keen interest in public health.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities
* Assist in coordinating manuscript submissions and tracking the review process
* Communicate with authors, reviewers, and editorial board members to facilitate timely reviews and decisions
* Proofread, format, and organize manuscripts to ensure they adhere to journal standards
* Maintain and update the manuscript tracking system
* Coordinate meetings with the editorial team and take minutes as needed
* Support outreach and marketing efforts for the journal, including social media and newsletter content
* Respond to inquiries from authors and reviewers in a professional and timely manner
* Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Editor-in-Chief
Shift Specifics
* Up to 10 hours per week
* Flexible with schedule of availability
* Shifts available Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM
* Part-time, flexible hours with occasional deadlines
* The candidate must be available to work remotely within the state of Georgia with the option of occasional in-person meetings
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
* Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
* Bachelor's degree in Public Health, English, Communications, or a related field (current students or graduates preferred)
Preferred Experience
* Previous experience in academic publishing, writing, editing, or public health
* Strong written communication and editing skills
* Experience using manuscript tracking systems (such as ScholarOne, Manuscript Manager, etc.)
Proposed Salary
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
