Job Summary

The Student Assistant will support the Office of Leadership, Technology and Human Development as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2025.

The Research Assistant for the National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Research Center (NYAR Research Center) will work under the direction of Drs. Juliann Sergi McBrayer (COE) and Chad Posick (CBSS). The Center is unique to the local Southeast Georgia community, the University System of Georgia, and the nation. It is holistically concerned with fostering the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of youth within schools, families, and communities in Georgia and across the nation. For over 32 years, the National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference has continued to provide quality, relevant training for all people interested in the well-being of youth, including but not limited to Teachers at all levels, Principals and Assistant Principals, School Counselors and Psychologists, Health and Human Service Counselors and Personnel, Criminal Justice Professionals, Business and Community Leaders, Volunteer Service Providers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Social Workers. The Center is intended to engage in and promote transdisciplinary scholarly research and collaborative research with community partners to assist young people in overcoming conditions that may threaten their safety, health, emotional needs, or intellectual development. The Center is based on a dynamic, complex system of interacting areas that impact the academic, social, and emotional well-being of youth.

Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Responsibilities

* Assists in data collection and analysis

* Transcribes of interviews and focus group data

* Conducts literature searches

* Writes up findings, discussion, and implications for practice and

* Performs other research assignments within research projects via the utilization of both quantitative and qualitative analysis skills

* Checks in with faculty members on a weekly basis

Shift Specifics

* Up to 20 hours per week

* Flexible with schedule of availability

* Works via both a face-to-face mode as well as virtually based on the agreed upon weekly schedule between supervisors and supervisees

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

* Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience

* Knowledge and experience with Excel, Qualtrics, and SPSS, as well as the ability to learn other statistical analyses

* Interest in advanced research, including publishing of manuscripts and academic presentations at the regional, state, and national levels

* Ability to write at an advanced level and learn the command of APA 7th Edition

* Experience with working under supervision while being self-directed

* Experience with relaying feedback

* Experience with maintaining social media

* Willingness to manage website material to maintain a virtual presence

* Program evaluation experience

* Effective time management skills

Proposed Salary

$15.00 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
