Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.The Student Orientation and First Year Experience Coordinator performs the following functions:
  • Designs, leads, and evaluates comprehensive orientation programs and first-year experiences aligned with institutional goals and best practices that cater to diverse student backgrounds and needs. Manges complete operations to include program development, marketing & promotion, budget, and assessment. Develops in-person and virtual orientation resources, incorporating innovative technologies, ensuring accessibility & inclusivity.
  • Develops strategies and initiatives, to include programs and activities that aid in students' transition into college life, creating a cohesive onboarding journey during the critical first year to improve student retention and persistence. Establishes partnerships and collaborates with campus constituents to create integrated and holistic programs & initiatives that promote student engagement, belonging, and wellness.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises team members, including orientation leaders, peer mentors, and support staff. Provides leadership, guidance, and professional development for team members to foster a high-performing, student -centered team culture that produces high-quality facilitation of programs and activities.
  • Designs and implements assessment tools to evaluate effectiveness of programs, using data to guide continuous improvement and drive innovation. Track student engagement and retention metrics and provide regular reports to college leadership, offering insights and recommendations based on program outcomes and student needs.
  • Actively participates in college committees and contributes to college-wide initiatives. Engages in professional development to stay informed of national and regional trends, research, and best practices in orientation, retention, and first-year experience. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field
  • At least two years of experience in student affairs, with a focus on orientation, first-year experience, or retention initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, assessment, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor staff and student leaders. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that supports the success of all students.
  • Proficiency with relevant software and tools, including CRM systems, SIS systems (Ellucian) orientation platforms, and survey software.
