UNIVERSITY STUDENT UNION CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, NORTHRIDGE STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION JOB DESCRIPTION Under the supervision of the Acting Assistant Director of Fitness, the Student Personal Trainer provides personal fitness and wellness training for clients. JOB DUTIES: • Evaluates clients' physical fitness • Develops exercise programs that clients will enjoy while also providing optimum results and keeping track of their progress • Provides instruction on the safe execution of movements and exercises, and encourages • Assesses clients' strengths and weaknesses and provides motivation and encouragement to propel clients to achieve their best • Maintains confidentiality related to participant information per USU/SRC policy and HIPAA guidelines • Must attend required Student Recreation Center and USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings • Performs other related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION • Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS: • Previous related experience and/or specialized education required. • Maintain at least one current certification from a nationally recognized certifying agency (ACE, AFAA, NETA, ACSM, NASM, NCSF, or comparable.) • American Red Cross or department approved First Aid, CPR, and AED certification shall be obtained within 30 days. Training is periodically offered free of charge by the USU. Applicants unable to attend USU-sponsored training are required to obtain certification at their own expense OTHER REQUIREMENTS: • Personal Trainers are required to provide a minimum of 10 hours of availability per week. These hours could be accumulated from the following: personal training sessions, floor shifts, mandatory meetings and trainings, working USU/SRC events, etc. Inability to provide a minimum of 10 hours of availability per week may result in separation from employment. • This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU. Following an offer of employment, the appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. The nature of the offense, the date of the offense, the surrounding circumstances and the relevance of the offense to the position(s) applied for will be considered. • The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. STRATEGIC PLANNING • Planning and Organizing: Organizes and prioritizes tasks to be performed and completed by a deadline in order to achieve the most efficient use of time. SUPERVISION: Supervision is provided by the Acting Assistant Director of Fitness TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule, must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Student Personal Trainer. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally sit for extended periods and regularly walk around building; talk and hear; be able to detect smoke, heat and subtle smells. The employee must frequently move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (if applicable). Specific vision abilities required but this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
