Position Information Banner Position Number 002625 Position Title Student Services Specialist Classification Title Student Services Spec Department Dean - College of Science - MU2500 Job Description Provide academic advisement and other academic support service to the College of Science. The Student Support Specialist advises students concerning their academic plans and progress, academic schedule, choice of major, and other academic activities and career goals, to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation.The Student Support Specialist is a professional advising position, responsible for providing high quality advice services to applicants, current students, recent graduates, which includes conducting individual student interviews, group meetings, and workshops. Additional responsibilities include performing various tasks to support the operations of an academic department, college, or central advising office on campus. Job responsibilities require excellent interpersonal communications skills, as well as the ability to effectively work with and provide information, assistance and related services to students, faculty, and staff. Work is performed under limited supervision, working within guidelines and established standards. Problems faced in this position are varied and often complex, requiring analysis and interpretation of the situation. Errors could easily result in moderate costs, inconveniences, and disruption of services within the affected area, and may contribute to important strategy, operations, and business decisions that affect the department.Location MU - Marshall University Salary Range $42,000 - $47,000 Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Salary Grade 5Qualifications Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree.Experience At least one year of experience in academic advising and working with students in higher education, familiarity with college or university functions, computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office software, good qualitative reasoning ability, exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, ability to exercise independent judgement, commitment to student success, ability to maintain confidential information.Preferred Qualifications EducationExperience Previous experience in advising/counseling/professional coaching (1 year). Proficiency with Microsoft Office (1 year). Experience in Banner or other student information systems (1 year).
