DescriptionColumbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) is seeking a Student Success Navigator to provide targeted support and referrals to college students in need of specific services and resources to increase academic readiness, success, and progress toward degree completion. The Student Success Navigator is responsible for creating, assessing, and continuously improving the policies, processes, and practices necessary to: facilitate equitable student learning and success; deliver excellent service; and, accomplish the work of the Student Services department.The Student Success Navigator is driven by coaching techniques, strategies, and methods and is responsible for success initiatives through creating and documenting plans with individual students identified in need of additional supports for successful college completion. Focusing on students who have a 2.5 or lower GPA, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining consistent methods to assist and support students by regularly checking their academic progress and providing individually customized follow-up and follow-through. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and be driven by a genuine desire to advance the College's Mission and Priorities. Accordingly, the Student Success Navigator will provide excellent service with a focus on closing equity gaps in educational access and attainment, and will work to promote inclusive prosperity throughout the Columbia Gorge region.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSProactive engagement with students and case management for providing academic coaching, supports, and referrals to services and relevant College resources.Provide timely check-ins and framework for support for students in need of success planning, including students who are having academic difficulty or who are on academic probation.Monitor individual student academic progress and providing regular customized feedback including next steps and skill development.Utilize information gathered from various resources to inform needs of students. Key indicators towards this will influence the planning for each individual student, including but not limited to academic performance concerns identified through Early Alert and below standard Satisfactory Academic Performance (SAP).Collaborate with advising team members for undergraduates in all majors in the College to implement data-driven support initiatives that significantly improve on-time graduation rates for 2-year degree completions as well as successful transfers to 4-year colleges or universities.Participate in relevant training opportunities and campus community committees focused on student success initiatives that will support increased success in the role.Use culturally responsive practices to benefit students, employees, and communities with historically marginalized identities.Dismantle systems and barriers in order to achieve equitable student success.Assist in building faculty and staff support for retention activities.Utilize student retention and completion data and evidence to inform decisions regarding student success and advising. Collaborate with College personnel to develop successful outcomes and plans for continuous improvement and share those plans with appropriate institutional stakeholders.Other related duties as assigned.The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.SUPERVISES THE FOLLOWING STAFFNoneRequirementsEXPERIENCEMinimum of one (1) year of experience working with college students from different cultural heritages and identities and facilitating the coexistence of people in a culturally diverse community.Experience offering academic and career guidance to students; including helping students navigate in a college setting and choosing a career path.Training in advising and programs supporting student retention, including proactive outreach and support to targeted student populations who do not meet established benchmarks. Knowledge of retention strategies and data-driven methods of identifying students who may be at risk of not continuing their education.Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs, activities, and groups.Two years of professional experience, preferably in a community college environment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Experience promoting equity-minded and diversely represented communications and materials, experience in responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and employees as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUNDBachelor's degree required (masters preferred) in counseling, higher education, social work or related field from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONSAbility to welcome, nurture and value people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as promote an environment that values differences.Formal training or experience in best practices and programming that improves the persistence, academic standing, and graduation rates of underrepresented and first-generation college students.Ability to engage, support, and mentor students from equity-seeking populations with an emphasis on race equity.Communicate effectively with students and a variety of campus offices to achieve grant objectives.Practical knowledge of retention strategies and data-driven methods of identifying students who may be at risk of not continuing their education and skills for applying information to initiate direct student contact resulting in achievable results.Must have excellent computer skills utilizing a variety of computer software and experience with database management or developing and maintaining data tracking.Commitment to a student-centered learning environment and student success.Ability to work with an insight into the needs of first-generation and/or underrepresented college students.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.OTHER POSITION INFORMATIONWork schedule may occasionally be modified to include early morning, evening, or weekend work.WORKING CONDITIONSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
