Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement (CSLI), the Student Union Operations and Events Manager is responsible for developing innovative policies and procedures for a diverse student population regarding the utilization of the student union, the operations, events and assessment. This professional works collaboratively with faculty, staff and various departments and college constituencies to engage students outside of the classroom to enhance the college experience through student engagement, leadership development opportunities and programming to serve the campus community.

Essential Duties:

The Student Union Operations and Events Manager serves as an initial contact and campus liaison for the public and campus constituents, in matters directly related to the daily management of the Student Union operations and events. The Student Union Operations and Events Manager recruits, trains and supervises the Student Union Managers (SUMs) and Interns who are undergraduate student employees that support the oversight of the Student Union events during some evening and weekend hours. This position manages the Student Union budget, personnel matter and serves as a liaison with student government, club, organizations, within this position's scope.

The Student Union Operations and Events Manager coordinates and is responsible for specific aspects of programming and student engagement, including but not limited to:

* Develop and oversee late-night and weekend programs along with logistics and planning for large-scale programs throughout campus.

* Facilitate assessment on Student Union utilization and program attendance, along with identifying additional revenue resources with Facilities, Auxiliary Services Corps, and CSLI.

* Support guidance for strategic planning within the Student Union in collaboration with the Director of the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement and the Student Government Association.

* Researching best practices in higher education, reviewing and evaluating facility requests; disseminating pertinent event information; assisting in the development of the annual planning calendar; maintaining an inventory of Student Union assets; assessing facility usage and making recommendations impacting user satisfaction, and coordinating hours of operation.

* Review and provide final approval of event advertisements by verifying sponsoring organizations(s), time, date and location with QUE Centre information and Panther Connect (Engage).

* Must function effectively in a student-centered environment.

* This position involves afternoon, evening and weekend work hours as needed.

* Assist with event oversight and office operations in the absence of the Director.

Work Schedule:

The following schedule is for the weeks within the academic semester. All other times during the calendar year the office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Monday/Tuesday: OFF

Wednesday through Saturday: 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm with the expectation that hours will be flexed to cover late-night events throughout the week and weekend.

Sunday: 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm with the expectation that hours will be flexed to cover late-night events throughout the week and weekend.

Summer hours: Will follow new student, transfer, and parent orientation hours, and will support with the operations and logistics of Orientation.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Strong strategic organizational experience that demonstrates ability to plan, promote and supervise events that are social, educational and/or recreational in nature; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with various departments, divisions, and student groups; and the ability to handle a variety of difficult and sometimes emergent situations, with tact and diplomacy. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of campus consistencies. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt quickly to changing priorities. Ability to work cooperatively within a team and cross-departmentally. Knowledge of Microsoft office products and knowledge of event management/scheduling software. Ability to manage budgets.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

* A minimum of a bachelor's degree.

* A minimum of three (3) years of progressive, professional, full-time experience in a public serving or customer service environment or student life, higher education administration, student events/convention operations management and/or program development/management experience.

* Experience working with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Two (2) years of full-time experience in event planning management, preferably in higher education in Student Center/Union or Student Activities, including facility management.

* Previous experience working with QUE Centre or other event management/scheduling software programs.

* Experience managing budgets (i.e., supplies, payroll).

* Experience with researching best practices and conducting assessments in higher education.

* Experience working with planning, promoting and supervising events.

* Experience working in a diverse student population.

Salary: $49,261.00 (plus location pay $3,400.00)
