2025-2026 Resident Assistant JobDescriptionOffice of Residence Life and HousingThank you for your interest in becoming a Resident Assistant. Below is a list of requirements to apply for the RA position and a timeline for the application process. Please read all the information in this packet thoroughly before submitting your application.Resident Assistant candidates must:
  • Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA & a 2.25 GPA for the semester
  • Have 12 credits or more completed at the time of application
  • Sufficient availability during the 2025-2026 academic year to execute position responsibilities
  • Successful attendance and completion of the Resident Assistant training if the position is offered
Important dates to remember:
  • RA Applications Available: November 4th
  • Completed Applications are due: January 20th @ 9AM
    • Applicants grades and conduct history will be reviewed
  • If your application is selected for a first-round interview, it will take place the afternoon of January 31st (not all applicants will receive an interview)
  • If you are selected for a second-round interview, we will schedule you during the designated time slots
Remember, it is your responsibility to submit all your application material prior to the submission deadline on January 20thRemunerationRemuneration for this position equals the cost of the assigned room plus a $1200 stipend spread out over the academic year.PRIMARY FUNCTIONSTHROUGH THE RESIDENCE LIFE STAFF, DELVAL KNOWS EVERY RESIDENTIAL STUDENT
  • RAs (Resident Assistant) create a supportive and meaningful relationship with every resident their area
  • RAs are available and accessible to support students
  • RAs help residential students get to know each other
  • RAs serve as a liaison between residential students and Student Life administrative offices
RESIDENT ASSISTANTS PROVIDE SUPPORT AND LEADERSHIP IN THEIR RESIDENTIAL AREA
  • RAs are academic and social role models for other students providing opportunity for residents to get engaged
  • RAs initiate contact with students who need assistance
  • RAs conduct regular floor meetings with residents on matters related to residential life
  • RAs respond to matters of concern in residential areas
RESIDENT ASSISTANTS WORK TO CREATE A POSITIVE COMMUNITY IN THEIR RESIDENTIAL AREA
  • RAs encourage individual responsibility and accountability among students
  • RAs enlist the help of all residents in developing an inclusive living environment
  • RAs facilitate productive roommate relationships
  • RAs develop and participate in activities that contribute to a sense of community and belonging through bulletin boards, programs, intentional interactions, floor meetings, and other opportunities
RESIDENT ASSISTANTS ASSIST IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF KEY RESIDENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • RAs are familiar with campus personnel, resources, and procedures, and refer students to those resources as appropriate
  • RAs read and post information of interest to students
  • RAs provide duty coverage for the building on a rotating basis with other RAs
  • RAs explain and assist in implementing residential procedures such as check in/check out, fire drills, room selection, etc.
  • RAs are also knowledgeable about other key processes such as course registration, academic support services, etc.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • RA In Service Dates (all hired staff for 2025-2026) are required to attend:
o April 26th, 2025 - time and location TBD
  • RAs participate in required training. Tentative start dates:
  • Fall training: Friday, August 15th, 2025
  • Spring training: Friday, January 16th, 2026 - tentative
    • RAs may be called upon to assist at major DelVal events (e.g., Homecoming, A- Day, Accepted Students Day)
