Job Description :
DescriptionTaft Junior College was established on August 30, 1922 as part of the Taft Union High School District. Classes were first held on the high school campus. The school title officially became Taft College on July 1, 1954, and in September of 1956 a separate campus opened in the current location at 29 Cougar Court adjacent to the high school. The West Kern Community College District was later formed, and is a single-college-district under the guidance of a five-member Board of Trustees. With strong leadership, Taft College offers a robust academic program for its students, and is one of the finest small colleges around!Work Study Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining a caseload of four to six mentees each semester
  • Meeting in person with assigned mentees
  • Helping mentees implement their Individualized Person Centered Plan
  • Scheduling mentee appointments to monitor their progress and making proper notation in files
  • Serving as a peer liaison and referring students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Coordinating, planning, and executing academic and social outreach and events for mentees as needed, including:
    • Developing, planning, and facilitating events
    • Recruiting speakers and panelists
    • Creating flyers and advertising events
    • Providing outreach services on and off campus
    • Facilitating involvement in Campus Life, ie Clubs, ASO, attending athletic events.
    • Serving as an official college representative and role model, and exhibiting the values and culture of the TIL Program
    • Managing projects and meeting expected deadlines
    • Peer Mentors may take on other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units, in good standing, with Taft College.
  • Student must remain enrolled and in good standing during employment.
  • Have completed at 9 or more units at Taft College, with at least one semester completed.
  • Have and maintain a 2.0 grade point average (GPA)

  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment
  • On time for assigned work schedule, activities, and tasks
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work with students, staff, administrators, and faculty from diverse backgrounds and identities related to socio-class, disability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, sex, ability, nationality, citizenship, and religion
