Job Description Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Transformando Caminos DHSI Grant Mentor. Transformando Caminos Mentors will provide support to DHSI grant activities and objectives. This includes creating and presenting lessons/workshops, participating in school site visits on and off-campus, and working with Teacher Academy students and transfer students. Mentors will be housed in the School of Education (SOE), which serves more than 600 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students who are pursuing licensure programs in elementary, special, & secondary education, and speech-language pathology. Core Responsibilities: HSI Grant Project Management
  • Assist with Teaching Academy recruitment and outreach.
  • Attend and assist with DHSI grant outreach at career, college, and magnet school fairs.
  • Assist in the implementation and coordination of a bridge program for pre-education and Transfer students.
  • Assist in the implementation and coordination of annual TAPP events: Scholars Days, Future Educators Days.
  • Assist the HSI Title V Project Director and Site Coordinators in distributing Transformando Caminos materials, Teacher Pipeline information and other grant related information.
  • Attend HSI professional developments and mentor trainings.
Administrative Support
  • Work in a collegial and collaborative manner with leaders, administration, teaching staff, NS and SOE faculty and staff, and other stakeholders to promote and support the DHSI grant vision, mission and goals.
  • Assist with data input for different event surveys, pre and post event surveys, and event evaluations.
  • Contribute content and support the HSI Team with social media presence.
  • Maintain confidentiality and models a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Assist with follow-up calls to students registered for events, scholarships, or sessions.
Research/Pedagogy
  • Research college-access, mentorship, and special topics in education.
  • Create instructional curriculum/lesson plans using a culturally-responsive lens for high school classroom presentations/workshops.
  • Present workshops and presentations for Teacher Academy high school students
  • Attend, participate, and lead PLATICAS, culturally responsive pedagogy circles and conversations.
Peer Support
  • Provide peer-peer mentorship support to Pre-Education, and Education students using Educators Rising mentorship activities.
  • Provide mentorship to concurrent enrollment students in Teacher Academies.
  • Assist with ARL outreach and support services connections.
  • Assist with transfer student outreach and support services connections.
  • Model and promotes high expectations, mutual respect, concern and empathy for students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Be willing to share ideas and information with colleagues and other professionals.
  • This position may require the Transformando Caminos Mentor to travel to campus and off-campus sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a Pre-Education/Education major student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State University.
  • Experience working with youth populations.
  • Skilled with telecommunication platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to and strong interest in working with historically marginalized and diverse student populations.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
Work Hours: This position will work 10-19.5 hours per week. Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week. Hourly Rate: $14.00 per hour.
