The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of contemporary equipment for documentary, narrative, and other forms of moving image media, including cameras, lighting, audio, and grip equipment. They will be organized and adept at supervising the staff of work-study students and interns. They will enjoy mentoring students and be able to organize and provide support for production classes and faculty.The successful candidate will be able to multi-task in a diverse student and faculty environment. Faculty in the department are a mix of media and journalism practitioners and scholars. We desire a candidate who will create a climate that helps a that helps attract and and is inclusive of all students.Responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:• Maintain, manage, and troubleshoot a TV Studio and Audio Lab . The TV Studio consists of three cameras, teleprompters, audio equipment (booms, wireless lavaliers, cables), audio interface, digital audio board, lighting board, lighting grid, Broadcast Pix, Teleprompter. The Audio Lab consists of two production suites and vocal booths, including microphones, Pro Tools software, audio interfaces and controls.• Interface with vendors such as B and H, Markertek, BlackMagic, ComTech, and Broadcast Pix among others, to diagnose hardware or software issues. This position would interface with Academic Computing and ITS to help maintain, update, and troubleshoot software in DMJ labs.• Organize and maintain equipment inventory for Media and Journalism courses. This includes cameras, audio recorders, tripods, cables, rechargeable battery packs, lighting kits, etc., which are available for students to check out for field work.• Maintain system for equipment checkout used by approximately 400 students per semester.• Research and purchase new equipment in consultation with Department Chair and production faculty. Stay current in new developments and trends in equipment for narrative, documentary, emerging media, and journalism.• Interface with various SUNY New Paltz.budgeting and purchasing departments and processes to facilitate equipment purchase.• Hire and supervise College Assistants and work-study students to assist with equipment checkout• Be available to conduct one-on-one mentorship with our students who work in the equipment room.• Maintain Regular Office Hours• Create a friendly student help-desk environment.Qualifications: Required:• College degree and training in a related field• Experience supporting media technology needs• Demonstrated skill and experience using creative programs and software. e.g., Adobe Premiere, Avid Pro Tools, After Effects• Record of working in interdisciplinary, multi-tasking environmentPreferred:• Master's degree (candidate working toward a master's degree will also be evaluated, with evidence of a timely completion date)• Record of professional equipment managing workContact Information: Electronic submissions required.
