Luxury accessories brand seeks Studio Finishing Assistant in NYC. $35-40/Hour with Health Insurance

Eittem is a newly launched luxury brand producing sculptural wooden handbags in our private studio in Manhattan. Priced from $6,000-8,000, the bags combine the finest materials with meticulous craftsmanship. They are machine-sculpted from reclaimed wood and finished in high gloss colors or matte clearcoats. Our wood finishing process combines elements of automotive, furniture and fine musical instrument finishing. It requires incredible hand skill, attention to detail and patience. We are looking to add two experienced finishers who can start immediately.

Experience

Education: High school diploma or GED required, college degree welcome

At least 3 years of experience in any of the following functions:

• Applying finishes by brushing, wiping on or spraying
• Sanding, defect correcting and buffing clear coats
• Rough and finish sanding wood
• Applying UV cured finishes

At least 3 years of experience in any of the following areas:

• Automotive finishing
• Fine furniture finishing
• Musical instrument finishing

Skills and Responsibilities

• Hand sanding wood to remove cut marks and achieve smooth surfaces using sandpaper of various grits
• Applying finishes (grain fillers, paints and clear coats) by brushing and wiping on
• Flat sanding clear coats to even, smooth surfaces in advance of final buffing
• Working carefully around sensitive areas like edges and sharp peaks
• Inspecting surfaces during sanding to detect scratches and uneven areas
• Tool Proficiency: random orbit sanders, pedestal buffers, various inspection tools
• The patience and skill to achieve the final product quality needed for our luxury price point

Work Schedule and Details

• Pay commensurate with experience. Overtime pay after 40 hours per week
• Position is in person at 601 West 26th Street New York, NY 10001
• Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
• There is frequent variation from regular hours to meet specific deadlines
• Working longer hours on weekdays and some weekends will be required
