Job SummaryJob Summary Under general direction perform responsible food service work by assisting in the preparation and serving of food in a school cafeteria. Receive Supervision from the Cafeteria Manager within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Assistant in food services operations, including serving and cleanup. Examples of Duties Assists with setting up the cafeteria and serving food. Assists in preparing main food items; measures, chops, cuts, slices, stirs and/or blends a variety of ingredients used in food preparation. Mops floors, empties garbage, wipes cafeteria tables, cleans serving counters, ovens, refrigerators and other food service equipment and machines. Assists with putting away food and storing leftovers. Assists as cashier, receives money, makes change and assists in the counting of money collected if necessary. Assists with maintaining appropriate student conduct in the lunch line and cafeteria. Sells and serves milk and in addition to the regular lunches. Performs other related duties as required by the Cafeteria Manager. Employment Standards Training/Experience: Any combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed herein. Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent with some basic experience in quantity food service and preparation. Knowledge: Knowledge of basic principles of kitchen and food service, preparation and storage. Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures associated with food services and cleaning methods and procedures. Abilities: Ability to understand both oral and written directions; learn and effectively apply proper sanitation and safety requirements; perform routine arithmetical calculations; make change accurately; meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
