Job SummaryThe Substation Foreperson will assign, oversee, direct, plan and assist work crews under their jurisdiction ensuring that the Authority's power systems equipment and facilities are maintained in an efficient, effective, and safe manner. Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the inspection of work crew maintenance/repair activities to ensure that assignments are completed safely and according to established schedules and operating standards.
- Remain current with the MBTA's Safety Plan as well as the position's outline responsibilities.
- Ensure the safety of workers and customers and ensuring that all inventory levels, equipment, and facilities under their control are protected in a safe operating condition.
- Assume the responsibilities of their supervisor as needed.
- Document, maintain, and prepare required maintenance and personnel records on manual and computerized tracking systems.
- Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Provide technical instruction when necessary.
- Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
- Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed. Respond or report to work as directed by supervisory personnel for emergencies, extreme weather conditions, or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service, twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
- Assist in the management of workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreement (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English
- Three (3) years of experience in substation maintenance or related electrical field.
- Familiar with the operation and maintenance of AC and DC electrical systems.
- Knowledge of medium and low voltage AC and DC equipment and their control circuitry.
- Operational knowledge of gas turbine power generation and it's ancillary sub systems.
- Experience with the operation, maintenance, and repair of high voltage bulk power substations.
- Experience with SCADA Control Systems for Medium Voltage AC and Low Voltage DC Substations.
- Ability to use Word, Excel or Database applications.
- Ability to pass: a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, background screening, and the MBTA's medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
- Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Have a satisfactory work record including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records.
