Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Student Services, provides consultation services and direct instructional and behavioral services to support students. The Behavior Specialist provides support and training to school site administrators, staff, and parents/guardians in appropriate behavior assessment, behavioral intervention techniques, and the development and execution of behavioral intervention plans.
Qualifications:
* A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Psychology or a related field
* Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification, highly desired
* A minimum of 3 years of experience providing behavioral support, social skills training to special education students
* Satisfactory work history
* Successful experience demonstrating tact, courtesy, positive attitude and maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
* Possess and maintain a valid California driver's license
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* In collaboration with teachers, develops effective behavioral intervention plans including behavioral goals focusing on stabilizing the student in his/her current setting
* Consults with staff concerning appropriate learning strategies and positive behavior interventions to support a student's access to instruction and to make academic progress in the least restrictive environment
* Trains and supervises employees who implement behavioral intervention plans
* Conducts behavioral and functional assessments, including Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and develops Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) that conform to IDEA and California Education Code
* Follows behavior intervention and behavior support plans in a consistent manner
* Conducts observations, collect data, and report on program and/or intervention effectiveness
* Works with district staff in developing data collection systems, monitoring data collection, and analyzing data to ensure the effectiveness of interventions and instructional strategies.
* Works and communicates with other agencies to ensure that all aspects of the student's program are addressed
* Consults with staff and partners for the purpose of developing interim intervention and transition plans for students moving between learning environments.
* Works effectively with students and colleagues
* Develops materials, provides resources, and delivers professional learning to administrators, certificated teachers, para-professionals, and parents/guardians in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Handle with Care, and other evidence-based methodologies related to serving the needs of students with behavior difficulties.
* Functions as a positive, contributing member of the educational team
* Attends and presents comprehensive reports about assessment results and contribute to the goal development and behavior planning for students at Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings.
* Works independently under general supervision while following IEPs
* Assesses the needs of the student and the influence of the environment on behavior and learning
* Prepares reports, presentations, materials and present information accurately in a group setting
* Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
* Maintains confidentiality of student records and information
* Prepares and maintain accurate records and filing systems
* Works with public and outside agencies
* With appropriate training, may be called upon to provide First Aid or CPR
* Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships and practices effective interpersonal skills with others including diplomacy, patience and courtesy.
