The HOLLA School mission is To change the academicnarratives of Black, Brown and Indigenous youth by honoring lived experiences, catalyzing genius and centering joy.COMPENSATION:Starting Salary for this position is $38K, which includes summer program staffing. This is a full time, exempt position.Salary is in addition to medical/dental insurance and PERS retirement benefits (eligible immediately for current PERSparticipants, eligible 6 months after employment begins for new PERS participants). All HOLLA School mentorsreceive professional development, supervision, mentor training, and support with reporting.GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:The goal of the HOLLA School Classroom Mentor is to relationally connect with students, staff and families, and to be apositive role model in the classroom. The Classroom Mentor embodies the HOLLA School values and supports inchanging the academic narrative for Black, Brown and Indigenous youth. The Classroom Mentor provides classroomsupport for a Lead Teacher as they guide the class through a lesson by preparing materials, interacting with students andsupervising projects. Each Classroom Mentor's role varies depending on the needs of the classroom and students. TheClassroom Mentor will focus on utilizing culturally responsive, relational, trauma-informed and restorative practices.Unstructured times such as lunch/recess provide the Classroom Mentor time to be present and connect with studentsoutside of instructional time. The Classroom Mentor works in partnership with the school administration and classroomteacher. The Classroom mentor provides in-class, small group and 1-1 student support as needed.The Classroom Mentorhelps build meaningful relationships with the families of the students.CLASSROOM MENTOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The role of Classroom Mentor at HOLLA School is a unique and critical position. The primary focus is on studentrelationships. Classroom Mentors establish rapport, encourage student development and foster a nurturing environmentfor each learner they encounter. Responsibilities can include but are not limited to: coordinating activities with the Leador Classroom Teacher; supporting learners with assignments like reading, basic arithmetic, science, history or art underthe guidance of the classroom instructor; setting up classroom supplies, leading small group activities, supporting smallgroup breakout sessions, providing students with 1:1 support or social emotional check-ins like, How is your daygoing? Let's talk about it. or playing a game or specific activity for the child's benefit and well-being as set forth by theschool team. Other duties include collecting data on teacher-created forms, attending professional developmentmeetings, functioning as a point of connection between home and school for our families and participating in schoolevents. As needed, classroom mentors will step in to substitute when classroom teachers are out as they can providestability for students in classroom culture, rhythm and curriculum.Classroom Mentors provide student support during lunch, classroom breaks and activities. Classroom Mentors may alsobe asked to gather supplies, support walking or community field trips, move furniture, make photocopies for a particularlesson, lay out materials, read with a child, assist a student who may need the calming presence of an adult until they areready to attempt a new or different activity. Classroom Mentors are another set of eyes and ears in the school communityand should anticipate exercising good judgment and to be adaptable, flexible and ready to support as needed, throughoutthe school day. Classroom Mentors may be asked to perform other duties as part of the collective support for studentsand HOLLA School.QUALIFICATIONS:Education: High School Diploma or equivalent or higher; or combined relevant experienceExperience: Experience working with elementary aged youth Experience working in diverse settings with diverse people Experience mentoring youth preferred Experience speaking, reading and/or writing in languages other than EnglishOther: Creative Adaptable Flexible Curious Ability to receive direction and feedback with an open mindset Comfortable providing redirection to youth that centers on their assets and inherent value Physicalrequirement of ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and lift up to 50 lbs Proof ofCOVD vaccination All HOLLA School Staff are required to submit to a background check as part of the pre-employment process aswell as on an ongoing basisKEY COMPETENCIES:Bilingual, experience with multi-tiered systems of support, some computer skills, competency with social mediaplatforms, reflective skills, inquiry skills, relationship building skills, reading and math skills, enjoys working withothers in team environment, ability to improvise
