This position involves performing various cleaning tasks to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for students, staff, and visitors. The Substitute Cleaner may be required to fill in for regular cleaning staff on short notice or as needed. Responsibilities: - General Cleaning: Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting in classrooms, hallways, offices, and other areas as assigned. - Restroom Maintenance: Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors, and replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper. - Surface Disinfection: Use appropriate cleaning agents to disinfect high- touch surfaces such as door handles, handrails, light switches, and desks. - Trash Removal: Empty waste bins and dispose of trash in designated areas, ensuring compliance with recycling and waste disposal policies. - Floor Care: Strip, wax, and buff floors as needed, following proper procedures for floor maintenance and safety. - Special Projects: Assist with deep cleaning tasks, seasonal cleaning projects, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor. - Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, such as vacuum cleaners, mop buckets, and floor buffers, to ensure proper functioning and longevity. - Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the safe handling of cleaning chemicals. - Reporting: Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner. - Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other cleaning staff and school personnel to achieve cleanliness goals and maintain a positive working environment. Qualifications: - High School Diploma or equivalent: Basic educational requirement. - Previous cleaning experience: Prior experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred. - Knowledge of cleaning techniques: Familiarity with cleaning products, equipment, and techniques for various surfaces and environments. - Attention to detail: Ability to perform thorough cleaning and sanitation tasks with attention to detail and quality. - Physical stamina: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects repeatedly throughout the shift. - Reliability: Dependability and punctuality are essential for this role, as substitutes may be called upon with short notice. - Flexibility: Willingness to work variable hours and adapt to changes in cleaning schedules or priorities. - Communication skills: Ability to follow instructions, communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues, and understand safety guidelines and procedures.
