They play a crucial role in ensuring that school facilities are well-kept and provide a conducive learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors. ?Location varies based on need. Key Responsibilities: 1. Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and other common areas.
- Empty trash bins, replace liners, and dispose of waste in accordance with school guidelines.
- Clean and sanitize surfaces and high-touch areas, such as doorknobs, handrails, and light switches.
2. Floor Care:
- Strip, wax, and buff floors as needed to maintain a clean and polished appearance.
- Operate floor cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers and carpet cleaners, and perform maintenance on these machines as necessary.
3. Maintenance and Repairs:
- Report maintenance issues, such as broken fixtures, leaky faucets, or malfunctioning equipment, to the school maintenance department.
- Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs or fixing simple plumbing problems.
4. Set-Up and Tear-Down:
- Prepare classrooms, meeting rooms, and other spaces for various events, including assemblies, parent-teacher conferences, and extracurricular activities.
- Assist in setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and other equipment.
5. Security and Safety:
- Ensure that all doors and windows are securely locked at the end of the day or during unscheduled events.
- Be aware of and follow school security and safety protocols, including emergency response procedures.
6. Grounds Maintenance:
- Assist with outdoor maintenance tasks, such as snow removal, leaf raking, and grounds clean-up.
- Help with the maintenance of outdoor areas, including playgrounds and athletic fields.
7. Inventory and Supplies:
- Monitor and restock cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other materials as needed.
- Keep track of inventory and report shortages to the custodial supervisor.
8. Communication:
- Communicate effectively with school staff, faculty, and administrators regarding cleaning needs, repairs, and maintenance issues.
- Report any safety hazards or security concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Available to work a non-traditional schedule and irregular hours, as needed.
- Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.
- Embodies high ethical standards/integrity.
- Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.
- Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
- Physical Demands: Duties require lifting/moving materials weighing up to fifty pounds, operating power equipment, using hand tools and working from ladders, scaffolds or mechanical lifts.
