Job SummaryCentral Union High School District is looking for highly motivated individuals who will help accomplish our mission of preparing students for college and/or career. Instructional Assistant, Special Education assist, in the supervision of special education students and relieves teachers of routine clerical tasks. This is an on-call position to provide additional support to students or to cover when an Instructional Aide is absent from work. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have good attendance and a friendly demeanor, and align with the District's core values of honesty, integrity and respect.Job Description / Essential Elements: Central Union High School District Classified Job Description Adopted: Classification: 17 INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT - SPECIAL EDUCATION Purpose Statement/s: The job of Instructional Assistant - Special Education is done for the purpose/s of assisting (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of special education students; relieving teachers of routine clerical tasks. Essential Job Functions: •Adapts classroom work/homework under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives. •Assists physically disabled students with toileting, feeding, positioning, lifting and other personal care for the purpose of supporting students with their daily living skills. •Assists teachers and parents for the purpose of implementing lesson plans. •Maintains classroom equipment, students' files/records as pertains to special education files/records for the purpose of ensuring a safe and appropriate learning environment. •Monitors individual students, classroom and/or school activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. •Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials. Other Job Functions: •Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. •Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. •Confers with teachers, (parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel as requested) for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementating of students' objectives. •Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge. Job Requirements - Qualifications: •Experience Required: Prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children and/or children with special needs. •Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills with appropriate policies, procedures, practices, laws, codes, etc.; basic instructional office equipment and materials; English in both written and verbal form; intervention techniques for emergency situations; maintain records; operate standard office equipment in a proper and safe manner; problem solving techniques; rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling; basic technology skills desired. Provide for special health care needs of students. Knowledge to perform basic math including fractions, percents, and ratios; to read a variety of manuals; type correspondence, memos, etc., usually in prescribed formats, and/or speak before groups; to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; possess knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes. Abilities to understand and address students with special needs, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Abilities for directing, controlling or planning activities of others; making judgments and decisions; performing repetitive or short-cycle work; performing a variety of duties involving frequent changes of tasks, aptitudes, techniques, procedures, etc.; attaining precise set limits, tolerances and/or standards; working under specific instructions of supervisor. Significant physical abilities include walking/standing for prolonged periods, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, lifting, pushing/pulling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision. •Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent, and complete two years of higher education study (48 semester hours of Core academic subjects), OR hold an Associate's degree, OR pass a formal state or local academic assessment that demonstrates knowledge of the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics or reading, writing, and mathematics readiness. •Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Tuberculosis Screening, and may require local academic assessment. •Other: First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificates (may be required by position). Valid driver's license (may be required by position). Job related proficiency test (may be required by position). Job related language proficiency test (may be required by position).Requirements / QualificationsExperience: Prior job-related experience, paid or volunteer, with school-age children and/or children with special needs. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, and complete two years of higher education study (48 semester hours of Core academic subjects), or hold an Associates degree.
