Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Substitute Teacher/Paraprofessional at the East Central Kansas Academy - Special Day School.Anticipated Start Date: 01/30/2025. Competitive salary commensurate with experience.Job Summary: The Substitute Paraprofessional assists with the day-to-day educational instruction in the learning center under the supervision of the site coordinator/designee. The paraprofessional aids in activities to assist students in gaining knowledge, developing skills, and attaining educational goals.QUALIFICATIONS: A valid driver's license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties. Required:
  • Minimum of high school diploma or certificate of equivalency.
  • Must be flexible and available on short notice.
  • Must be in good standing with partnering district(s) where the program is located.
  • Preferred:
  • Post-Secondary degree and/or relevant certification/licensure.
  • Experience in special education, behavior management, and data collection.
  • Effectively communicate solutions to complex problems.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions:
  • Review, reinforce, and remediate skills previously addressed by a classroom teacher in individual or small group settings for the purpose of facilitating student achievement.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the designated curriculum for the purpose of effectively assisting in facilitating student achievement.
  • Reinforces and supports student academic, social/emotional, and behavioral plans as designed by the certified teacher for the purpose of developing students' basic social/interpersonal/academic skills.
  • Facilitate student social and cultural integration and language development.
  • Assists classroom teachers with the preparation of instructional materials for the purpose of providing necessary materials to enhance learning activities.
  • Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of prescribed methodologies under the direction of a teacher or professional staff for the purpose of facilitating student achievement.
  • Responds to emergencies (i.e. injured student, unsafe environments, etc) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and /or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Understands and utilizes educational technologies, as appropriate, with students under the direction of a teacher for the purpose of facilitating student learning.
  • Is reliable, punctual, and completes duties promptly, and accurately.
  • Maintain the facility or assigned area, to keep it clean and safe for students and staff.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision when the site coordinator/designee is unavailable.
  • General Responsibilities:
  • Maintain timely documentation.
  • Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the SEKESC.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.
  • Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.
  • Maintain professional relationships with families.
  • Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.
  • Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.
  • Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
  • Regular and predictive attendance in the designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Lifting to 40 pounds.
  • Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
  • Sit/stand for long periods.
  • Work in loud/stressful environments.
  • Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions.
  • Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Being exposed to hazardous materials.
  • Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA-compliant.
