The Summer Camp Unit Supervisor assists in the supervision of Unit Leaders and is responsible for direct oversight of camp in the absence of the Summer Camp Manager. She supports the Camp Counselors and facilitates programs throughout the week. Due to close contact and overnight supervision of a Girl Scout minor girl population in this residential setting, the Summer Camp Unit Supervisor must be female.Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and hold weekly meetings with Unit Leaders.
- Oversee units and assist in the assignment of staff and campers to units.
- Coordinate daily announcements and special recognitions.
- Maintain records of badges, who has earned specific patches/badges, and inventory of badges/patches remaining.
- Collect and disperse mail daily.
- Assist the Summer Camp Manager in developing routines, staff schedules, and procedures for camp operation.
- Plan and lead staff meetings for all camp staff when Summer Camp Manager is absent.
- Participate in Camp Administration meetings, review evaluations with all staff under ACA guidelines, and counsel staff as needed.
- Conduct cabin inspections.
- Assist in the execution of the GSHPA crisis management plan for emergencies that may occur during camp at any time, day or night.
- Keep written records of the Summer Camp units and unit programs, make formal reports, and submit within established deadlines.
- Support the camper check-in and check-out process.
- Assist in covering ratio in units and fill in as a Camp Counselor when necessary.
- Follow all ACA and GSUSA guidelines in all activity areas.
- Abide by GSHPA code of conduct, rules, and expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or coursework in Camp Administration, Education, Outdoor Education or related degree, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Previous experience working in a camp leadership setting required.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate girls to participate in activities and lead activities in a professional manner.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must present a current form of ID affirming female gender at time of hire.
- Attend and complete pre-camp trainings.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Ability to quickly respond to emergencies 24/7 when on camp property and follow GSHPA established emergency procedures.
- Ability to live and work in the outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to walk a mile over uneven terrain.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
- Ability to adapt well to changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
- Ability to work with diverse populations in a group setting.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to pass required background checks.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
