DescriptionAbout the InternshipThe Aviation Department manages five airports within The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, one of the busiest airport systems in the country. The Technology and Digital Services team supports the Aviation Department's operations by developing, managing, and supporting critical systems and applications that ensure the efficient and secure operation of these airports.As an intern, you will report to the Manager of Aviation and Digital Services and assist in managing the lifecycle of the systems portfolio across the five metro-area airports. You will gain valuable experience working on critical systems and applications, while also collaborating on forward-looking innovation initiatives for the department.Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing a security systems program for critical applications used by the Port Authority to operate its airports.
  • Conduct assessments to develop detailed system diagrams, including integration and dependencies across five layers of the OSI model.
  • Gather necessary system information to enroll applications on cybersecurity monitoring tool.
  • Support the development of a Disaster Recovery Process document to ensure business continuity for essential systems.
  • Analyze current systems to identify areas of improvement, efficiency, and enhanced security.
  • Collaborate with the department's Innovation team on forward-thinking initiatives, bringing fresh ideas and solutions to ongoing projects.
  • Create and update technical documentation, including system architecture, integration dependencies, and business functions.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards in Power BI or similar tools to support project tracking and system monitoring.
  • Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to support project alignment and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester.
  • Major in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related analytical/technical field.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of system architecture, cybersecurity, or IT systems management.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • An interest in public service and the aviation industry.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Power Apps, or similar data visualization tools.
  • Knowledge of the OSI model and its relevance to system design and integration.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Interest in cybersecurity, disaster recovery planning, and technical documentation.
Internship Details
  • The start will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending Friday, August 22, 2025
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day).
  • The format is expected to be hybrid

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly Rate Range: $18.07 to $27.89 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year).
