Job Overview
At Stevens & Lee, the Research Assistant supports professionals with client-driven research activities. This role requires the ability to clearly communicate, locate, organize and apply information, and work both independently & collaboratively with a team to deliver actionable insights. Ideal candidates will have an academic background in business, communication, library science, or a related field, with strong organizational, language, and interpersonal skills.
This position is an internship, with the potential for full-time employment contingent upon performance and continued business growth.
Primary Responsibilities (responsibilities include but not limited to)
- Interpret communications and requests to identify information need(s), format, priority, and breadth.
- Perform client list reporting.
- Update the Master Client list weekly.
- Evaluate, refine, and censor client lists for cross-selling opportunity assessment.
- Build, evaluate and refine targeted lists for sales, networking, and product development.
- Daily retrieval of articles for professionals based on their client relationship or ongoing need.
- Monitor industry standards and news for practice groups, leadership, and administrative use.
- Design and run litigation reports and retrieve appropriate legal documents (PACER, Bloomberg Law, local courts).
- Pull financial statements and bond issuance reports (EMMA, SEC, FreeERISA).
- Identify and retrieve industry reports (IBISWorld, D&B Hoovers, etc.).
- Identify and retrieve Regulatory Proposal, Bill or Law text and supporting documents.
- Identify and retrieve additional third-party reports as needed (D&B Hoovers, S&P Capital IQ.
- Research, identify key details, and compose customized company profiles, biographies and industry reports.
- Verify government inquiries and involvement of entities and individuals (EPA, SEC, NLRB, OSHA, FDA).
- Verify Business State of Incorporation and Legal Names for business & organizations.
- Perform key professional, company, and lateral candidate “red flag” background and reputation evaluations.
- Find and validate individual or entity contact information.
- Create and refine spreadsheets and presentations for use by professionals.
- Identify need and construct data reporting tools to meet requested client or professional needs.
- Complete client-billable research, presentations, and reporting projects in collaboration with attorneys and professionals.
- Maintain detailed client-project task and time logs.
- Build law firm competitor & lateral benchmarking reports.
- Compile lateral target presentations and refine as requested.
- Support annual Firm sales and growth review and evaluation process.
- Compile research supporting platform strategic development goals & progress benchmarking.
- Compile research as requested for strategic business development and product creation.
- Assemble and distribute weekly newsletter to professionals.
- Maintain and report department workload and metrics.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Competencies
- Boolean and keyword advance electronic search proficiency preferred.
- Electronic database and browser search proficiency preferred.
- Familiarity with common computer document file formats and software (PDF, RTF, DOC, DOCX, XL, CSV).
- Demonstrated problem solving skills equivalent to education completed.
- Excellent spelling and grammar skills; highly organized; detail oriented.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to individual information accessibility needs.
- Ability to represent Firm in a professional manner.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; General Business, Business Intelligence Analysis, Library Science or Communications degree preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Suite 2016 is required.
- Resourceful, self-starter with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Resource validity and bias assessment proficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and balance priorities.
