DescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Adhere to the policies and procedures of Eagle Village and State of Michigan.Assume full responsibility for all the campers in your cabin 24 hours a day. This includes constant supervision and meeting the needs of each individual you are assigned to.Keep campers busy in constructive activities and following scheduling. Accompany and carefully supervise the campers in all of their activities. This should be done in a positive and enthusiastic manner.Teach campers to live with one another and respect each other. Set an example of promptness to activities and meals.Teach and set an example of politeness and manners.Make a daily inspection of camper clothing and bedding. Do not embarrass a child for bed wetting since it is often symptomatic of an emotional problem. Notify the Health Officer of the location of the bedding and clothes to be washed.While unpacking, check camper's baggage for medicine, knives, candy, TV, radios, matches, money, etc. Tag each item with their name and give to the Health Officer on the first day. All will be returned on the last day.Report all accidents of medical concerns to the Health Officer. Help alleviate camper discomfort whenever possible.Maintain a firm but loving discipline using methods taught during training. Offer praise and encouragement as recognition for good behavior. Handle camper discipline according to camp procedures.Report any suspicion of child abuse to your direct supervisor/or Director of Camps & Experiential Services.Fill out a daily evaluation on each camper and turn it in at the closing meeting of each camp session. This evaluation is to be done daily, not at the end of the week.Write a letter to each of your campers after camp.Teach campers to protect and respect the environment.Attend all Camp staff meetings.Assume camp responsibilities on-site: teach classes in the afternoon, take free-time duty as assigned, organize and plan each cabin activity for your cabin and take free swim duty as assigned.Assume camp responsibilities off-site: teach outdoor living skills, organize and help your assigned food group, and implement activities assigned by Camp Coordinator.Timely completion of all required orientations and in-service trainings and maintain certification of the same if applicable, including but not limited to CPR, Aegis, and Aquatic Observer.Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by supervisor or administration. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This job has no supervisory responsibilities.RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, one + years post-graduation preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Not applicable.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:First Aid, CPR, HWC; Valid Michigan driver's license and good driving record.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
