Implements safe working environment protocols; establishes and maintains high standards for customer service and timely work order completion. Manages time and attendance via computerized time keeping system; Oversees property inventory for the department and is responsible for overseeing the departmental budget. This position will require participation in call-out responsibilities. This position is considered essential and therefore may be required to remain on campus for storm or emergency related duties.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesServes as Supervisor of the Carpentry and Building Trades Division which entails all personnel management responsibilities; all budget management responsibilities and the management of time and attendance for staff using our Time Clock Plus software system.Develops and implements work schedules for staff utilizing our TMA software; oversees the associated purchases for work orders, the timely completion of work orders with quality workmanship and the development of cost estimates as requested by campus departments.Supervises, inspects and performs tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of campus facilities to include sheetrock repair, painting, construction of desks, doors, cabinets, molding installation, window repair, the mounting of items such as tv's, speakers, pictures, the removal and installation of carpet and flooring and other similar types of carpentry work.Collects and organizes prices/quotes for “Request for Cost Estimates” forms turned into the Physical PlanHires, directs and supervises contractors and sub-contractors for university projects.Serves as a liaison for the Physical Plant with all areas of the campus to include, external entities such as vendors, contractors, architects, officers of the city and county, officials representing grant programs and donors.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsAssociates degree (A. A.) and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesLanguage Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Utilizes belt sanders, routers, door planers, heat guns, skill saws, hands saws, roto hammers, nail guns, staple guns, tile cutters, lock mortises, hinge templates, hand grinders, pad sanders, jig saws, stud guns, hammer drills, concrete saws, Dewalt saws, sharpeners, planers, miter saws, moulders, table saws, joiners, drill presses, wood lathes, scroll saws, bench grinders, chop saws, carpet tools, power shop tools, and University vehicles.
