Job Description :
Historic New England seeks an experienced preservation project management specialist for the role of Supervising Project Manager, Property Care. With support from partnering staff, the Supervising Project Manager, Property Care oversees the assessment and prioritization of preservation and maintenance needs along with the development and implementation of preservation projects and capital improvements for 38 historic properties across the New England region. Analytical and resourceful with a thorough understanding of project management principles and best practices, the Supervising Project Manager, Property Care effectively plans and implements work processes ensuring activities are coordinated within the property care team and across the organization.Classification: Full time; ExemptLocation: New England-based hybrid remoteKey Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Works with staff to regularly survey the properties and ensure a full understanding of property needs and issues, including the documentation of existing conditions and supports research and planning to resolve complex issues.
  • Works collaboratively to develop the long-term work plan and budget and implements the approved plan.
  • Oversees the development and review of project plans and bidding documents and implementation of projects.
  • Ensures work is coordinated across other teams and has a consistency of approach and adherence to the preservation philosophy and best practices of the property care team.
  • Develops and manages a portfolio of projects as needed to support the work plan.
  • Trains, mentors, and manages staff to effectively manage the assessment of the properties and the development and implementation of projects.
  • Supports fundraising efforts for the institution including identification of potential funding sources for projects and development of grant proposals and funding requests.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and minimum six years of job-related experience, or equivalent combination of skilled credentials, with a demonstrated understanding of the requirements to preserve and maintain historic structures.
  • Thorough understanding of project management principles and best practices with the ability to effectively plan and implement work processes to complete tasks according to schedule.
  • Experience in the development and management of small and large construction projects.
  • Fully competent computer skills including skilled use of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel spreadsheet functions, e-mail, and digital photography.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to effectively manage and motivate staff using team-based approach.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment, where communication within and among the teams is essential to success.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interact diplomatically and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable means of transportation required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in historic preservation, engineering, architecture, conservation, or a related field.
  • Experience with preservation project planning and an understanding of the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Historic Properties.
  • Formal training or professional certification in project management and/or related disciplines.
