SUPERVISOR II PAYROLL GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK Performs complicated professional and administrative work supervising the most essential task in the Finance Department - Payroll. Assisting with the planning and supervising of the operations of the overall finance office as it pertains to payroll; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Coordinator II -Finance and the Chief Financial Officer. Supervision is exercised over four payroll technicians.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with: - Supervises the essential task of ensuring that payroll is processed and completed on time,efficiently and correctly.
- Oversees and supervises the preparation and maintenance of payroll function, planning and implementing all computer operations, maintaining files and records; preparing reports;
- Provides annual evaluations of payroll staff, participates in hiring of new payroll staff;
- Evaluates, trains, and plans with the Coordinator II - Finance all cross training of Finance staff;
- Communicates issues with payroll and payroll processes with Coordinator II - Finance;
- Supervises the maintenance of payroll records and audit trails for all payroll related records;
- Provides all ad hoc reporting to other financial system users with regard to payroll records;
- Reconciles payroll accounts and performs adjusting entries as needed;
- Handles all payroll reporting both state and federal;
- Oversees the external audit with regard to payroll and related records;
- Communicates and coordinates with the Human Resources department on payroll processes and records that are shared by both departments;
- Performs a wide variety of related accounting and supervisory tasks;
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Ensures ACH files are transferred to the Bank accurately and on time for processing;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of school administration; comprehensive knowledge of the general laws and administrative policies governing school budgeting and financial practices and procedures; skill in the operation of financial software and personal computer equipment; ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and peers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration or finance, preferred OR
- Greater than 7 years commensurate experience in processing Payroll with demonstrated leadership skills or supervising others
