This Supervisory Store Associate serves in a developmental capacity as the first line supervisor and manager of the Front-End Department of a Commissary store.

You must meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 1101 and additional requirements by the announcement closing date. Experience: One (1) year of demonstrated knowledge of retail procurement and distribution methods; principles, procedures, and techniques of retail food merchandising and retail food store management; and developments in commercial retail food store items, equipment, and practices (specialized experience) equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Experience can be under other Federal service pay systems, private sector, or military.

Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Plans, directs or assigns work for employees.
  • Knowledgeable of multiple departments within a grocery store in order to evaluate work, provide instruction and conduct on the job training for workers.
  • Carry out daily retail grocery store functions necessary to successfully execute store operations.

Additional Requirements that must be met by the closing date:

  • Physical requirements: (1) Must be able to lift items up to 40 lbs without assistance (2) Long periods of standing, bending, lifting, carrying and reaching while searching for stock and replenishing shelves is required (3) Work may be performed in the freeze and chill boxes exposing incumbent to extremes in temperature.
  • You will attest to your ability to perform these physical requirements in the Questionnaire.
  • Time-in-grade applies to the promotion of current and former federal employees who hold or have held a permanent GS position in either the competitive or excepted service in the previous 52 weeks, including current employees applying under VEOA.   • For GS-6: You must have 52 weeks of Federal service at or equivalent to GS-05.
  • Time after competitive appointment. Current federal civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since being selected for a nontemporary appointment from a competitive examination register of eligibles (an announcement opened to the public) or under a direct hire authority.

The certification must be on letterhead signed by the adjutant, personnel officer, unit commander or higher headquarters and include your rank, dates of active duty service, type of discharge, character of service, and, if applicable, the date your terminal leave begins. This document is sometimes called a Statement of Service. Notes for veterans:1. Active duty military members who are selected may not be appointed to a position unless on terminal leave or already separated.2. You are required to provide your final DD214 upon issuance, if it was not part of your application package.3. Within the DoD, appointment of retired military members to a civilian position within 180 days immediately after retirement is subject to the provisions of 5 U.S.C. 3326.

  • Applicants claiming Military Spouse Preference must submit the completed Military Spouse PPP Self-Certification Checklist, proof of marriage to the military service member (e.g., marriage certificate, marriage license), and a copy of the military member's PCS orders.
  • ICTAP eligibles must submit RIF separation or proposed removal/separation notice, your latest SF50 and a copy of your most recent performance appraisal.
