Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Buyer/Planner reviews material requirements for actual and forecasted sales, and plans and purchases the highest quality materials, parts, and components, etc. at the most cost-effective while meeting delivery requirements and analyzes material requirements to determine when materials will be needed, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Run ERP status reports and analyze for adequate levels of assigned product to meet projected sales and production needs.
Negotiate with vendors for goods and services, securing the best possible price, service, quality and delivery schedule including blanket orders.
Examine bids, make awards, and issue purchase orders per approved purchasing guidelines including approval process.
Assist with establishing account/credit and terms, including supplier managed or consignment inventories.
Work closely with the receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrive and are received.
Communicate with suppliers to submit purchase orders and follow-up all purchases until received.
Release production work orders for the shop to process.
Complete other duties and special projects as assigned to support Jason Industrial activities.
Record supplier non-conformances in the central database and follow appropriate corrective actions per departmental procedures. Discuss and/or share results with key suppliers regularly.
Process returns for defective materials and parts and inventory adjustments.
Provides periodic reports and communication to key stakeholders regarding purchasing and delivery status.
Create and maintain part numbers for purchase and manufactured items as needed, including pricing, costing, lead-time, supplier, MRP planning, manufacturing lead time, and routing information.
Assist in reconciling invoice and receiving transaction discrepancies.
Participate on cross-functional teams to ensure continuous, ongoing improvement of processes, methods, productivity, and quality, while reducing costs.
Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related major and three to five years of related experience; or an associate degree or two years of college with job related coursework and four to six years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret purchasing related documents such as catalogs, product-related literature, and technical books and/or manuals. Ability to prepare reports, purchase orders and correspondence related to purchasing. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and with other employees of the organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written or oral form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Microsoft Office, specifically experience with Excel, required.
CPM or CPIM certification is preferred.
