Covenant HealthCare US:MI:SAGINAW VARIABLE SHIFT FULL TIME BENEFITED Summary: The Operating Room (OR) Supply Specialist functions at a high level to maintain the complexity of their department/environment to ensure a smooth operating flow. The OR Supply Specialist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in their attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. Responsibilities: Contributes to organization success targets for net operating margin. Models Covenant's Mission, Vision and Values of keeping our Promise of Caring and Commitment to Service. Has clinical contact with patients in all age groups (neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) and is able to appropriately assess, care for and treat them according to the age appropriate care guidelines as defined by Covenant HealthCare. Works in the OR providing direct patient care as needed Must have a highly specialized clinical and technical knowledge that relates to surgical procedures, instruments, equipment and supplies to maintain departmental function and delivery of care. Maintain a positive rapport and exhibit effective working relationship with co-workers, physicians, materials management and other departments. Serve as liaison between OR, surgeons, and vendors to ensure special case needs are researched and acquired as needed. Initiate and maintain communication with physician officers to define needs for a specific case. Ability to analyze situations and collaborate with the lead techs as needed to obtain positive patient outcomes. Review surgical schedule to identify possible equipment, supply, and instrument needs in accordance with the current schedule. Exchange information with coordinators, staff, and Sterile Processing regarding specific case needs. Work with the OR educator to identify the needs of staff regarding both new and current equipment and supplies, and coordinating in-services. Serve as resource for surgeons, OR staff, Sterile Processing and other departments regarding diagnosis of equipment and supply problems. Serve as a liaison between the OR and Sterile Processing to facilitate the maintenance of instrument levels and proper instrument care. Maintain communication with department manager and coordinator regarding the progress of pending issues and identify areas of concern. Possess the ability to function in a fast-paces team environment with frequent interruptions. Must contend with large variety of rapidly presented demands in ongoing situation with deadlines that are imperative to meet. Adhere to unit, department and administrative policies and procedures. Flexibility in working hours to meet departmental needs. Adhere to unit/department budgetary practices while maintaining Corporate Compliance. Seek cost savings by standardizing equipment and supplies, monitoring usage in an effort to facilitate best pricing. Represent the OR's at CQPVA meetings Attend and participate on committees when necessary. Resource for Inventory Specialist from Materials Management. Solicit capital equipment requests, prioritizes and implements capital upon approval. Collaborate with the manager to establish and monitor capital and operating budgets. Investigate monthly budget variances in collaboration with the unit manager. Assist finance Department with departmental charges and pass through codes. Suggest alternative equipment available to resolve problems and facilitate caseload. Ability to decipher large amounts of information on an ongoing basis, using OR schedules, supply usage, history, materials inventory process, etc. To maintain par levels of critical items in OR and Sterile Processing. Ability to calculate percentages, ratios, averages to assist manager with maintenance of supply budget verification and justification. Possess knowledge of surgical procedures to identify instrument supply needs. Ability to problem-solve use of all pieces of equipment in OR setting. Other information: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE High School Graduate or equivalent Current surgical Technologist with 5 yrs. Experience. Preferred certification for Surgical Technologist. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation. (Examination, identification, care and assembly) Working knowledge of the sterilization process. Working knowledge of a Case Cart system. Understanding sterile techniques and operating room protocol. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Strong Customer Service skills. Strong Communication skills. Ability to work either independently or in a group. Ability to resolve problems effectively. Ability to motivate and precept new employees. Ability to work with computer programs pertinent to supplies/equipment WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Constant standing Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs. Frequent lifting, carrying, stooping, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision, and field of vision Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
