Job DescriptionSavannah River National Laboratory, Operations & Facilities department is seeking an Operations Support Specialist. The successful applicant will provide technical and administrative support to all functional areas within O&F to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, orders, laws, and site procedures.ResponsibilitiesProvide general guidance, direction, and administrative support to ensure that all operations programmatic functions follow all site guidelines and DOE orders. All functions will most likely be in direct or indirect support of Operations and Facilities functional areas. Support areas will comprise of, but are not limited to administrative, operations, maintenance, engineering, outside facilities, radiological, or research and development technical areas. Ensure that the facility can operated in a safe and efficient manner, routine walkdowns, evaluations, and inspections are to be routinely performed. Validate new and revised procedures for accurate content and overall quality. Execute periodic reviews and assessments to confirm facility systems are functioning properly and are being upheld within required operable limits. Perform numerous administrative and program functions in parallel with, or in support of all operational program compliance, planning, scheduling, training, and projects within related areas. Interface with other groups within SRNL facilities, and additional support groups across the Savannah River Site complex. Arrange and review facility work packages and related work control processes in support of operations, maintenance, and other work evolutions associated with the daily operations and plan of the day activities. Assemble and review lockout/tagout plans that will provide precise instructions for the isolation, containment, or de-energization of various mechanical and electrical, chemical energy systems in accordance with established procedures, Site guidelines and DOE orders. Offer daily feedback to the Facility Manager, Operations Manager, on-duty Shift Operations Manager, and other management within all functional and programmatic areas that support facility or area operations. Assist as required in support of all operational activities including equipment maintenance and functional testing. Develop, implement, and document corrective actions for identified systems and equipment deficiencies and failures and an overall processes and programs. Review and ensure that the communication and comprehensive understanding of new and revised technical and operating procedures, bulletins and required reading to operators and other relevant operations support personnel. Conduct training for operations personnel on new systems and equipment and monitor and critique performance. Track and monitor training and qualification status of all operations personnel to ensure individuals are qualified to perform required functions and have accomplished all training requirements within a timely manner. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Comply with and understand all Conduct of Operations principles.
  • Comply with and understand Nuclear Safety Basis / Technical Safety Requirements.
  • Complete training / qual card for position.
  • Develop hands-on competency and technical knowledge of all programs and facility equipment.
  • Work thoroughly with engineering and offer feedback on equipment capabilities and propose suggestions for future applications.
  • Validate and review procedures for new equipment. Revise procedures as necessary.
  • Support On-the-Job Training of new Operators.
  • Assist with daily housekeeping.
  • Travel to Vendors for training and acceptance testing may be required.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • High school Diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications: Technical Degree (Bachelor of Science), experience with Conduct of Operations, Nuclear Safety Basis / DSA, Technical Safety Requirements, Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout / Tagout), SOST Application, Nuclear Fundamentals, Site Tracking, Analysis, & Reporting (STAR), and Work Control PlanningAbout Us We put science to work!
