Location: Mt. Vernon, NY

Rate of Pay: $31.00

Part time: 16 hours a week

OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES: Provide supportive coaching to help local college students with mental health challenges succeed and graduate. Assist college students learn life and coping skills and manage the demands of college life. Communicate with school counselors, complete case notes and monthly reports and market the program. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide educational counseling/coaching to college students with diagnosed mental health challenges to help them succeed and graduate college.
  • Assist students to learn life and coping skills, as well as to manage the demands and stresses of college life.
  • Communicate with school counselors to keep them informed of students' progress and challenges.
  • Assist students to advocate for their needs including accommodations; elp link them to additional resources as needed.
  • Market the program to increase student referrals from local colleges, and build/maintain a caseload of 20 students.
  • Complete case notes, monthly reports and intake paperwork.
  • Attend monthly college collaborative meetings with the Department of Community Mental Health and local colleges.
  • Maintain a supportive curriculum for life and education skills development.
  • Maintain and report on student demographics.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES: Knowledge of college resources and accommodations, counseling, networking, computer and organization skills. Familiarity with principles of psychology and the range of mental health diagnoses and challenges. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field, Master's degree preferred, 2 years' experience working with individuals, preferably college students, living with mental health diagnoses.   • Must be capable to sit or stand in front of a computer for long-periods of time
  • Able to work in open space floor plan
  • Must be capable to move throughout work day (and follow individuals throughout the community)

  • Must be able to move in tight spaces
  • Occasional lifting of > _25+ pounds
