The practice of a Surgical Physician Assistant for Wakefield Orthopedics shall include medical services within the education, training & experience of the PA, delegated by the supervising physician. Responsibilities may also include overseeing completion & submission of routine & special reports. Medical services rendered by PAs may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories & performing physical examinations; ordering &/or performing diagnostic & therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing & implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting at surgery; offering counseling & education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes & other institution settings. RESPONSIBILITIES: Working with all clinical staff at Montefiore, including office staff, preoperative clinical staff as well as staff on the unit, as well as patient's & their family members Communicate with Internal Medicine/Co-management physicians as well as communicate with patient's physicians within or outside the Montefiore system, as well as office staff, to coordinate & obtain pertinent health information as needed to assess & medically clear each patient for surgery Teaching, regarding preoperative education when needed Performance improvement & research activities, maintaining professional practice standards & clinical expertise, & demonstrating leadership skills. The clinician will demonstrate core & unit specific competencies, based on the patient population served Contributes to the actualization of the philosophy & objectives of the dept of orthopedic surgery, & the Montefiore Center for joint replacement surgery. They participate in performance improvement & research activities, & maintains professional practice standards & clinical expertise Help the medical team perform complete preoperative medical evaluations for patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. This will include physical assessment, ordering specific lab tests, interpreting lab data, assessing the patient's current medications, and recommending changes of medication therapy preoperative. The clinician/coordinator will understand & utilize guidelines that will ensure patient's safety for surgical procedures & anesthesia. The clinician must be self-directed & semi-autonomous. Participate in dept performance improvement activities. Navigate multi-disciplinary staff through established process improvement initiatives using proper methodologies. Rotation Schedule days/nights/weekends. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree required NYS PA License Certified by NCCPA Physical assessment skills, EMR proficiency Managing multiple schedules simultaneously. Coordinating & reconciling patient care with outside clinical entities.
