This will be a role working as needed, by the departments in Big Rapids/Reed City Hospitals.Scope of workThe Surgical Technologist Senior maintains responsibility for preparation of the surgical suite, intra operative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. Serves as a Preceptor and engages with management and education team on curriculum of education.* Provides sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedure.* Performs surgical sponge, needle and instrument counts.* Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments and medications/solutions for each surgical case.* Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case.* Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment.* Takes an active role in preference card building and management through communication with surgeons and EMIs* Engages with surgeons to make suggestions regarding instrument sets (i.e. streamlining sets by removing instruments, combining sets, adding instruments that are always opened separately, etc)* Actively engages in case costing by talking with surgeons regarding product usage, connects with EMIs to make cost savings suggestions, makes suggestions on how to eliminate waste on casesQualifications* Preferred Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology* 3 years of relevant experience Independent Surgical Technologist Practice is required* Basic Life Support (BLS) Cert is required within 90 Days* Surgical Technologist, Certification is required upon hire through (CST) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or we can also accept (TS-C) - NCCT National Center for Competency Testing Tech in SurgeryPhysical Demands* Pallet to Waist (6 from floor) > 5 lbs: Seldom up to 50 lbs* Waist to Waist > 5 lbs: Seldom up to 50 lbs* Waist to Chest (below shoulder) > 5 lbs: Seldom up to 10 lbs* Waist to Overhead > 5 lbs: Seldom up to 5 lbs* Bilateral Carry > 5 lbs: Seldom up to 25 lbs* Unilateral Carry > 5 lbs: Seldom up to 10 lbs* Pushing Force > 5 lbs: Occasionally up to 25 lbs* Pulling Force > 5 lbs: Occasionally up to 20 lbs* Sitting: Seldom* Standing: Frequently* Walking: Frequently* Forward Bend - Standing: Occasionally* Forward Bend - Sitting: Seldom* Trunk Rotation - Standing: Occasionally* Trunk Rotation - Sitting: Seldom* Squat: Seldom* Stair Climbing: Seldom* Crawling / Kneeling: Seldom* Driving: Seldom* Reach - Above Shoulder: Seldom* Reach - at Shoulder or Below: Occasionally* Handling: Occasionally* Forceful Grip > 5 lbs: Occasionally* Forceful Pinch > 2 lbs: Occasionally* Finger/Hand Dexterity: Occasionally* Visual Acuity ¹[None = No; Seldom = Yes]: SeldomHow Corewell Health cares for you* Comprehensive benefits package to meet your financial, health, and work/life balance goals.
