GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

This is a part-time position (27.5 hours per week) located on the Spencer Campus. Primary responsibilities are to assist with Surgical Technology lab courses as assigned per semester. Additionally, this position will track student surgical clinical cases, evaluate and report student performance, and evaluate student progress. Must be able to obtain certification as a Certified Surgical Technician.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF THE TIME):

Constant (67-100%)

* Effectively organize and teach in contracted lab courses in accordance with established syllabi. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations.

* Evaluate, report, and record student performance and progress in accordance with college and division guidelines.

* Maintain current course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught.

* Interview prospective students as requested and assist in the admission and recruitment process.

* Assist in coordinating and monitoring students in the clinical practicum rotations.

* Coordinate clinical education.

* Provide administration, organization, and supervision of student clinical experience.

* Participate in the Program Advisory Committee (PAC).

* Advise the program director on curriculum development and revisions.

* Participate in the development of printed materials related to the program, such as the college catalog, brochures, and course schedules.

* Ensure documentation of the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competencies.

* Provide continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experience.

* Ensure orientation to the program's requirements of the personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical sites.

* Coordinate the assignments of students to clinical sites.

Occasional (10-33%)

* Professional development to keep current with developing trends and ideas in the profession.

* Purchase and maintain clinical lab equipment and supplies.

* Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of communication within the college and community.

* Encourage and foster student participation in professional organizations, college activities, and community activities.

* Represent the College in a most positive, professional manner to prospective, former, and current students, staff, and the community, and understand the Community College concept.

* Possess a commitment to a student-centered environment.

* Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.

* Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies, and practices.

* Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.

* Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administrators and other contacts.

* Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.

* Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities and sensitive to various learning styles.

* Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

* Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.

SPECIAL DEMANDS:

Position involves sitting or standing most of the time in an office, classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and carrying and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, texture by touching with skin, particularly in fingertips. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%). May be required to travel between sites utilizing personal vehicle. Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and provide proof of insurance.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon the successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate Degree preferred. Three years of recent, relevant operating room experience. Completion of a state or nationally-recognized examination. Must be able to obtain certification as a Certified Surgical Technician

Salary: $25.00/hour
