Carnahan, Proctor and Cross, Inc (CPC) is seeking an experienced instrument person to join our esteemed survey group. This role, which involves using total stations, GPS, and optical and digital levels as a field team member on various project types, offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and advancement. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in surveying, be a self-starter, and demonstrate a keen ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

The primary role of this position is to assist the Survey Crew Chief in completing their assigned survey projects. The position requires good basic math skills related to surveying, good verbal and written communication skills, and the motivation to follow instructions completely and accurately while working in various types of terrain and conditions.

  • Load/unload equipment for transportation, clean and store surveying equipment used by the crew
  • Keep the crew's assigned vehicle clean, properly maintained, and stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies as instructed by the Crew Chief. Report any mechanical or safety-related problems to the Crew Chief
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with other crew members to facilitate the timely and accurate completion of assigned projects
  • Observe all safety guidelines and procedures, particularly when working around traffic or on active construction sites
  • Accurately and efficiently set up equipment, operate survey instruments, levels, data collectors, clear-cut lines, and establish control-topo points for field survey projects as assigned by Crew Chief
  • Import and Export survey data to and from the data collector for use in the field and office
  • Stand, walk, use hands, tools, and controls, reach with arms, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be familiar with the basic types of land surveying and terminology and be knowledgeable about the field duties of an Instrument Operator and/or Rod Person.
  • High school diploma or GED diploma preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience as an Instrument Operator.
  • Florida residency and current valid Driver's License,
  • Familiarity with Topcon and Sokkia GPS, Robotic Total Stations, Data Collectors, and Levels.
  • Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and the ability to travel out of town periodically when necessary.
  • A background check will be needed to access certain job sites.
