Job DescriptionGeneral Overview:Under administrative direction; directs and administers the survey operations of crews conducting construction surveys, preliminary surveys for design of engineering projects, horizontal & vertical control surveys, and boundary surveys; initiates continuous updateof survey technology and equipment.Required Qualifications:Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.Two (2) year associate degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology plus five (5) years of experience as a registered surveyor that includes proven supervisory responsibility. Possession of a valid State of Ohio vehicle operators license required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Comprehensive knowledge of standards, methods, practices, computations & equipment used in surveying work; public works construction, reconstruction & maintenance projects; state & local control systems for boundaries & geodetic control, retracement/ establishment of boundary lines; supervision practices; department policies & procedures*; department goals & objectives*. Thorough knowledge of bridge & road engineering. Ability to communicate effectively; deal with variables & determine specific action; geometry, trigonometry & calculus; use proper research methods; prepare meaningful, concise & accurate reports; deal with non-verbal symbols in formulas, equations or graphs; define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions.(*Indicates developed after employment).Job Duties:The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.Plans, coordinates & supervises work of field survey crews performing survey projects for highway/bridge divisions; reviews and assigns survey projects and work orders to survey crews; coordinates the activities of contractors and the appropriate project manager or division, for the timely completion of survey projects; assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures involving multiple divisions of the department.Performs analysis of survey data and makes comparisons and calculations for certification of land and engineering surveys, preparation of maps, land boundaries, final measurements and quantities, and the monitoring of contractor methods of horizontal and vertical control on agreements for survey work to be completed by consultants; evaluates consultant qualifications, quality of work, and makes recommendation for hire; explains and interprets survey findings to engineers, contractors, public officials, or other professionals.Determines and advises party chiefs on proper methods; assigns standards of accuracy and thoroughness; maintains inventory of survey equipment; researches new methods and technology associated with performing surveys, and requisitions new equipment; develops procedural documents for survey crews; reviews reports and other documentation prepared by survey crews in order to ensure compliance with established standards; maintains records and prepares reports.Ohio Licensed Certified SurveyorPre-Employment Testing Requirements: Criminal Background Check, Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol TestingPosition : 405222002Code : 20244000-3Type : INTERNAL & EXTERNALGroup : ENGINEER CPosting Start : 04/01/2024Posting End : 04/30/2025HOURLY RATE RANGE: $34.21-$44.46
