Possible scheduled shifts:7:00am-3:30pm7:15am-3:45pm7:30am-4:00pm8:00am-4:30pm8:30am-5:00pm3:00pm-11:30pmHoliday rotation in place.Position ObjectiveA Switchboard Operator is responsible for managing the organizations telephone switchboard system. They receive incoming calls and reroute them to the various departments and employees as requested. The operator has to respond to emergency alerts and route information to the appropriate parties, as well as have knowledge of the hospital's emergency codes and procedures. They are also responsible for updating the daily On-Call Schedule, batching checks as well as other clerical duties. Essential ResponsibilitiesCommunication
- Manage all incoming calls and place outside phone calls on restricted lines
- Contact Physicians when appropriate while utilizing the call scheduler
- Record all Physician to Physician and code calls, logging the data, time, and caller's name, if applicable
- Greet and direct patient and guests who present to the Switchboard area
- Have knowledge of hospital's codes and respond according to policies.
- Have knowledge of weather-related policies
- Page or announces clearly overhead when required.
- Call clergy for inpatients who request a clergy visit
- Ensure clergy list is printed, and distribute to clergy as they visit
- Serve as receptionist for the hospital when needed
- Find assistance for patients needing help from their vehicle to a wheelchair if needed
Clerical
- Update, and distribute(when necessary) the daily On-Call Schedule
- Open, sort, stamp, organize, total, and batch checks that arrive by mail.
- Prep payments for mailing.
- Highlight and alphabetize Explanation of Benefits for our business office.
- Assists our Security Department by
- Documenting and retrieve patient belongings from the safe as needed.
- Lost and Found Items, distributing to owner as needed.
- Collect payments and issue receipts after normal business hours
- Using Epic (EMR) Census and Patient Phone Lists; sort and find correct patient room number.
- Maintain appropriate department supplies.
- Fold, sort, and mail statements, and various mailings
- Checks in/out vendors and records the name, company, date, and times.
- Forward cards for discharged patients, looking up address in Epic
- Update and maintain provider contact protocols
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Assist other departments as needed.
- Participates in departmental or organizational meetings and trainings.
- Demonstrates ability to use equipment relevant to the position.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Computer Experience
- Prior Switchboard Experience
- Experience with 10-Key Adding Machine
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to answer the telephone in a professional manner
- Strong keyboarding skills
- Ability to navigate Microsoft Office products with general computer knowledge
- Ability to learn new procedures and protocols while incorporating them into current workflows
- Ability to remain professional, calm, and maintain a caring composure when faced with difficult or stressful situations
- Willingly accept work assignments and changes in daily routine
