The Deputy Sheriff role at the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office involves performing professional sworn law enforcement duties to ensure the safety and security of the citizens and property of Cumberland County. Deputies will execute routine patrols, respond to emergencies, conduct criminal investigations, and enforce laws under general supervision. More complex situations are addressed under the direct guidance or collaboration of a Deputy Sheriff Corporal or Deputy Sheriff Sergeant. Apply today to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Cumberland County's citizens.* Enforce local, state, and federal laws by proactively patrolling assigned areas to ensure public safety and order.* Swiftly and effectively respond to emergency calls, incidents, and situations requiring immediate law enforcement intervention.* Conduct comprehensive investigations into criminal activities, meticulously gather evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, and prepare detailed and accurate reports.* Execute the arrest and processing of individuals suspected of criminal activity, ensuring strict adherence to legal procedures and protocols.* Provide clear, professional testimony in court proceedings, supporting the successful prosecution of criminal cases.* Foster strong community relations by engaging with citizens, building trust, and promoting public safety initiatives.* Accurately prepare and maintain detailed reports and records of incidents, arrests, and law enforcement activities.* Collaborate effectively with other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and community organizations to enhance overall public safety.* Participate in continuous training and professional development to stay current with law enforcement best practices and enhance skills.* Conduct educational programs and outreach initiatives to inform the public about safety, crime prevention, and available community resources.A Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification is mandatory for this position. Only applicants with a valid BLET Certification will be considered. If you do not currently possess this certification, please refer to our BLET PRE-PROCESSING posting to obtain the necessary BLET Certification.Eligibility Criteria:* Must be a United States citizen.* Must be at least 20 years of age.* Must have a high school diploma or GED.* Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.* Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including but not limited to:* Criminal background check* Physical abilities test* Polygraph test* Medical examination* Drug screening* Psychological evaluation* Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts.* Must reside within 40 miles of the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Center.QualificationsInterested candidates must submit the following documents within 5 days of applying for this position. Attach copies of these documents to your completed application or submit them to the Human Resource Office located at 131 Dick St., Fayetteville, NC.* North Carolina Driver's License* High School Transcripts or GED* Birth Certificate* Military DD-214 Member-4 (if applicable)* Social Security Card* Copy of North Carolina BLET Certification* Authorization for Release of Personal Information (can be obtained and notarized at the CCSO HR office free of charge with a valid driver's license)* Working knowledge of state and federal laws, local ordinances, and department policies, particularly those related to search and seizure, serving papers, pursuit, and arrest.* Working knowledge of law enforcement principles, practices, methods, and equipment.* Knowledge of scientific crime detection and criminal identification methods and procedures.* Skill in the use of firearms and other law enforcement equipment, as well as in the application of self-defense tactics.* Ability to act with sound judgment in both routine and emergency situations* Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.* Ability to present effective court testimony.* Ability to prepare clear and concise activity reports.* Ability to build and maintain cooperative and effective public relations with citizens.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other public officials.* Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record.* Must have and maintain a clean criminal record.* Must live within a forty (40) mile radius of the Law Enforcement Center.* Must submit to a drug-screening test and receive a negative result for the use of drugs specified in county policy.The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
