POSITION OVERVIEW This is an entry-level position requiring the ability to perform physically demanding duties in a copper mining environment. The SXEW Laborer is expected to perform general laborer duties in the SXEW Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform housekeeping and shoveling.
- Wash floors with a hi-pressure water hose.
- Operate forklift.
- Operate overhead crane.
- Bundle copper cathodes.
- Correct and/or report any observed safety hazards and housekeeping issues.
- Make adjustments to offsite pumping stations when needed.
- Handle and maintain stainless steel blanks and lead anodes.
- Complete equipment pre-operation inspections.
- Inspect fire extinguishers and eye wash stations for operability.
- Work safely and obey all established safety and health policies.
- Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Learn to buff and straighten stainless steel cathode blanks.
- Become proficient in the operation of the HDPE fusing machine.
- Become proficient in the operation of forklifts, overhead cranes and stripping machines.
- Become knowledgeable about SX, EW and leaching operations to be ready to qualify for promotions as vacancies occur.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Requires working a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Working holidays and overtime may be necessary.
- Requires wearing personal protective equipment as required to minimize health exposure in mining environment.
- Requires working in adverse climate/temperature environment.
- Must wear a respirator in conditions of fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
- Must be able to work from verbal communication and be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and standard operating procedures.
- Must be able to lift moderately heavy objects, climb a ladder and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Must have a valid driver's license.
