Position Data: Application / System / Network Administrator III-J23-U29-H Regular Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime) Overview: Pay Range: $42.55 - $53.96 per hour (Teamsters Pay Plan IT45, Step 1-13) Hiring Range: $42.55 - $45.15 per hour (Teamsters Pay Plan IT45, Step 1-4 DOQ) Job Closing Date: Open until filled with weekly reviews. The Yakima County Technology Services department has immediate opening for a System Administrator III. The Technology Administrator - Server Administrator plays a critical role in managing and maintaining the County's IT infrastructure. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of servers, network systems, and related hardware and software components. The Server Administrator is responsible for configuring, deploying, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing servers to meet the County's performance, security, and availability requirements. These positions performs intermediate, or advanced technical research, analysis, and support. This is a full-time, on-site position with NO remote work opportunities. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections) Responsibilities: Essential Duties: Installs, configures, secures, manages, and monitors VMWare/vSphere ESXi clusters as well as physical servers in all county locations. Configures, manages, and monitors virtual storage environments. Administers, monitors, and configures guest hosts within vCenter. Coordinates and/or helps install application software where necessary. Executes and monitors routine backup and disaster recovery processes. Manages cloud based services (e.g. Intune, Azure, Exchange, SCCM, etc.) Supports internal and external user administration, permissions, and access. Works as a team to develop technology disaster recovery plans, strategic plans, and security plans for the server, cloud, and datacenter environments. Research, test, and recommend new server hardware, Server Virtualization environments, Operating Systems and Data Backup Management, Explores technical solutions for business issues. Investigates how existing technology can be modified for new applications. Gathers and studies various resources to maintain expertise in multiple technical areas. Utilizes problem solving to trouble shoot, analyze and resolve county wide server, data center and virus issues. Provides senior level hardware, server virtualization environments and operating system expertise, consultation, leadership and training to other Technology Services staff. Advises Manager regarding proposed solutions. Coordinates resources related the projects assigned including team member. Supervises technical team members. Monitors and evaluates performance by Technology Services team and outside contractors. Determines, develops, modifies and maintains operational procedures, proposal specifications, security levels, and appropriate documentation. Performs ongoing server maintenance and applies all hardware and software updates. Performs routine security and performance monitoring. Maintains documentation on, and installs and configures a broad assortment of hardware and software platforms. Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, assisting other IT staff to ensure the optimal operation of all systems, supporting operations at county data centers, and responding to user requests. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Operating System Management, or Computer Hardware Architecture AND six (6) years full-time system support including application or server hardware support OR an equivalent combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Required: Valid United States Driver's License upon appointment and proof of insurance, if requested. Successful completion of criminal background investigation and general employment verification. System Administrator III: Advanced knowledge of Windows infrastructure components (e.g. SCCM, AD, DNS, DHCP, etc.) Strong understanding of virtualization technologies (VMWare, ESXi, vSphere, SAN/NAS, etc.) Strong understanding of AD attributes and knowledge of how permissions are granted to users and groups. Strong understanding of group policies and how they are applied within Active Directory. Strong understanding of backup strategies, and a familiarity with backup software processes. Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to think outside of the box. Good understanding of cyber threats and security solutions. Good understanding of infrastructure monitoring tools. Good understanding of performance tuning methods. Ability to interact with all levels of staff. Preferred: Strong understanding of Microsoft cloud technologies (Azure, Exchange, Intune, etc.) Familiarity process automation and basic scripting (powershell, python, etc.) Familiarity with common industry regulations and security frameworks (HIPAA, CJIS, NIST, etc.) Knowledge of Unix/Linux, SQL syntax, and networking fundamentals. Basic project management skills. Supervisory Experience Equipment Used: Servers, Storage Area Network Devices, Switches, Telephone, Copy Machine, Voice Mail, Computer, Printer, Scanner, various vendor hardware and software; passenger vehicle. Working Conditions: This position is rated as Medium Work, Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects or work out in the field. Environment: excessive noise, travel, multiple work locations, may be exposed to hostile/angry individuals, may work outside of standard business hours and locations. Physical Demands: bending, handling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing, fingering, crouching, kneeling, hearing, talking, and visual acuity. Intellectual Demands: ability to multitask, confidentiality, ability to work under pressure, ability to articulate and communicate information in conversations, ability to follow written and verbal instruction. Knowledge: Intermediate, or Advanced level of knowledge with server hardware, server software, operating systems, virtualization, backup and recovery solutions, security practices, and general troubleshooting. Additionally, this position requires knowledge of networking, scripting and automation, user management and patch management. This position should be intimately familiar with research methods, analysis techniques, and customer service principles. Skills and abilities: Using a personal computer and related software applications; operating basic office equipment; determining priorities and making critical decisions; developing initiatives and projects; teaching, coaching, monitoring, and evaluating work of others; developing, writing applying and implementing policies and procedures; resolving problems and conflicts; negotiating vendor contracts; giving presentations, public speaking and facilitating meetings; researching, and implementing compliance measures related to legislated requirements; time management; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff at all organizational levels and with the public; and oral and written communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give instruction and receive work direction.
