System One is seeking a highly capable and motivated System Design Engineer to join the Natrium project on a 12-month remote contract. Reporting to the Reactor Core System (RCC) Lead, you will focus on the integration of core design, methods, and core component designs. This position requires close collaboration with engineers working on RCC and interfacing systems as part of a high-performing team of engineers and scientists. A background in flow-induced vibration (FIV) testing and analysis is highly recommended.In order to make an application, simply read through the following job description and make sure to attach relevant documents. Responsibilities: Collaborate with a geographically diverse design team to develop design documentation, working alongside employees, subcontractors, partners, and customers. Support the RCC System Lead in the design and integration of systems, equipment, and components, ensuring safety and reliability from requirements definition through final design. Apply engineering principles to the design of nuclear and industrial facilities and their systems. Coordinate analyses including neutronics, thermal, fuel performance, and core mechanical, among others, to support system design. Identify and ensure the effective use of relevant design codes such as ASME and ANS. Analyze regulatory criteria and standards for mechanical system design and provide technical guidance on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards. Support the Core Vibration Program within the Comprehensive Vibration and Analysis Program (CVAP), coordinating with design teams and vendors to manage schedules and deliverables. Evaluate safety classifications, system requirements, and assess failure modes and their effects on system functionality. Establish technology maturation plans for critical technology elements of the RCC system. Continuously apply nuclear industry best practices to improve engineering design quality. Interface with licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports. Participate in design reviews at key project milestones to verify design compliance and completeness. Key Qualifications and Skills: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical systems design. Proven experience in the design of complex structures, multi-discipline integration, and mechanical pressure vessel equipment. Strong understanding of configuration management principles and design control tools, especially in nuclear or complex industrial applications. Experience with nuclear reactors and systems, high-temperature pressure vessels, or similar system design is highly desired. Functional knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BVPC), Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV), or Regulatory Guide 1.20 is highly preferred. Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills. High attention to detail with a commitment to technical excellence. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and coordinate with a design team with minimal supervision. Ability to manage competing objectives and resolve conflicts between design constraints. Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 in design activities. Strong integrity, open communication, respect for colleagues, and a team-oriented mindset.
