DescriptionJACKSON COUNTY, GEORGIACLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATIONCLASSIFICATION TITLE: SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATIONThe purpose of this classification is to maintain computer equipment and networks to ensure optimum performance. Under general supervision, this position will provide support for computer systems and networks of Jackson County, Georgia. Reports to the Information Technology Director.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Configures and installs computer, peripheral and network equipment.
- Maintains security of systems by running antivirus software, deleting unused files, securing equipment to its location, and by other appropriate means.
- Troubleshoots computer hardware and software problems.
- Maintains hardware and software service, inventory and license records.
- Provides technical support to staff in the use of computer systems.
- Assists staff in understanding operation of computer, peripheral and network equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of current computing practices, standards and equipment.
- Knowledge of software diagnostic tools and their use.
- Knowledge of and working experience with computers, peripherals and with Windows Operating Systems.
- Good organization, time-management skills and communication skills.
- Ability to operate personal computers, networking equipment printers and other networked and standalone peripherals.
- Ability to prepare accurate reports and to provide quick and innovative solutions to computing problems.
- Ability to remove and reinstall hardware components.
- Ability to move heavy equipment (70lbs) daily.
- Ability to establish and maintain helpful and friendly atmosphere for computer and network support.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to safely drive a vehicle and travel to different sites.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends and to be available on short notice to resolve problems.
- Ability to handle on call after hour emergency support. All staff are scheduled to respond typically one week out of each month for after hour emergency IT support on rotation. This may include providing support remotely or at times being able to respond on site within 1 hour to resolve support issue.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSPerforms other related duties as requiredPHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work is performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and must move equipment weighing up to 70 lbs, typically on a daily basis. The work is performed primarily in an office and indoors, where the employee may be exposed to dust and dirt. DISCRETIONARY AUTHORITY & JUDGMENT EXERCISED:The IT Director assigns work in terms of goals and objectives. The work may be reviewed for the nature and propriety of the results. Guidelines include the Jackson County information technology policies and established Microsoft server network guidelines. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. SCOPE & IMPACT:The purpose of this position is to assist in the installation, configuration and troubleshooting computer networks and associated assemblies. The employee frequently interacts with co-workers for the purposes of exchanging information, resolving problems and explaining procedures.SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:None.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of two-year technical school or two years of college or university credits in core subject or 5 years professional experience.
- Proficient experience installing and deploying Windows Desktop 10, 11.
- Experience with Veeam or comparable backup solutions.
- Experience with virtualization and VDI deployments such as Vmware View or Xendesktop preferred.
- Two plus years' experience with VOIP phone systems preferred.
- Valid Georgia driver's license and clean driving history to be able to drive a county owned vehicle.
